This is my current project that I've been working on for many months.
King Tiger with full interior by Trumpeter, you can build it with the1711310579271596195420383188920.jpg17113106415117074916330829339065.jpg17113106814491604405461747543333.jpg17113107309836504154555706005590.jpg1711310579271596195420383188920.jpg17113106415117074916330829339065.jpg Henschel or Porsche turret.
It's my first try in 1/16 scale, and I gotta say my 57 year old eyes likes it alot better than 1/35. All in all a really fine kit, but I did get some after market kits for it, like the radio rack.

This model was my first try at zimmerit. I used Elmer's wood filler and the tool that came with the kit. I couldn't get it to look good the first few tries, scrapped it off and tried again. Never got the look of factory applied, so in my mind this is a field application. I don't know if they even did that, but I have seen photos of some rough zimmerit. I also think I might have over weathered the model, but I was having so much fun it was hard to stop. So I'm thinking this vehicle came out in mid 1944 and spent a winter on the Eastern front and we see it now in spring of 1945.17113176507458694460613326824125.jpg17113176983341579742823501435903.jpg17113177490428654706644944885543.jpg

I have never been happy with my figure painting in 1/35, so I planned on going with no figures on this build. I glued the hatches shut early on so I wouldn't be tempted to buy some of the really nice tank crew figures available out there. It wasn't an issue until I saw this guy on Andy's Hobby. I had to have him. I have since gotten another figure for the project. 17113233577083997922740986997771.jpg
Tank is pretty much completed if I can stop myself from playing around with more weathering. Got to finish the two figures as best I can, still trying to improve myself. I was once told we are our own worse crtics....and that is definitely true with me.
I then need to build some sort of diorama base for the project.

Looks like you have a great start on the figures. I'm terrified to attempt figure painting. Lol. The weathering on the tiger looks great to me!

That is a monster of a kit. I have just done the Takom King with interior at 1/35, It was a bit fiddley so I can see the 1/16 would make it easier on the eye's. Pantherman

Ya, box says over 1850 parts. I found this book to be a great help. The author spent three years building the same kit, and documents the journey. He fixed what Trumpeter got wrong and scratch built what was left out. I didn't go down that rabbit hole as deep, but did scratch build a few things in my skill zone 17113951042676267213816450987658.jpg
I would recommend this book to anybody building a King Tiger, no matter scale or maker, an excellent resource.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, they mean alot. I've been working on this project for over a year now. This is the first time anyone whose opinion I care about has seen it.

I decided from the start I was going to paint, and weather everything on the interior since Trumpeter did such a nice job with the kit, and it's not a cheap kit!!
Some things ,like down in the engine compartment will never see the light of day, but I know the engine is painted and weathered with oil stains and everything. The interior of the model easily took twice as long as the exterior to complete. 1713306456035390867494625676993.jpg
