What was your car growing up (high school car)

I've since had chargers (classic and new) and things with Hemis, but back in the day…the first car I had of my own was a mild custom 90 Dakota (5.9 carbureted). Before then I drove hand-me-downs.

(1976) At 16, my girlfriend and I bought a 1972 Ford Capri.
Thats the German/UK style Capri with the same 4cyl. that was in a Pinto.
Over the next 3 years me and my brother-in-law bought another half dozen Capris and 3 Pintos.
I drove daily two Capris, a green '72 and then a yellow '74.
I also drove a Pinto occasionally.
My bro-in-law built a nice street Capri with a 350 small block.

My '72 Capri was wrecked on the highway in a sudden traffic jam.
My '74 was rear ended by a drunk kid late at night.

My first car was a 1955 Volkswagen Beetle. Four cylinder 1200 cc . Had semaphore signal lights and cloth sunroof. Six volt electric system. Had a hard life was out on a slide ride with 5 people in it rolled it up a hill. Popped the sunroof to get out, we rolled it back on its tires pushed down the road got it started back to town we went. It became the tumble bud after that day.

I don't know how it is possible to have a car in the high school, high school for me was from 14 to 18 years, you get your driver license with 18 so guess if you are born at the start of spring, you can drive a car for a maximum of 6 months. My first car was a Ford Escort 1.6 16v GLX, very good acceleration and a top speed of 180Km/h, she was design like a tank, I torture that poor beauty without knowing and mistreated her. Those days gas was cheap but she swallowed more than 9L/100Km. I always dreamed about her bigger sister the Escort RS Cosworth... and a lot of men dream about that car.

And...The RS Cosworth

My first car (about 1987) was a 1956 standard 8 with a straight six 2ltr twin carb Toyota engine, jag irs and triumph herald front crossmember/ suspension, my dad bought it and all the parts for me to build when I was 15, never made it to the road as girls became a priority, lol.5a5bb9d6908664ac7c14fcbaa41a32d8.jpg
Followed by a minvan with a 1275 gt engine7FnISwHvn7xuUOqpOotb5tDhOxCP67cAqngD0AWz.jpg

I think the vast majority of us may have fallen for the "girls" trap Mark. lol

I used to build hot rods all the time when I was younger and then.....I got married. All of that pretty much ended for a while. I've had a few cool cars since but nothing like the ones I had when I was single. lol

Well, this is an interesting subject.

  • A cherry '66 VW bug, rolled it within two weeks
  • Ford Pinto, baby blue, blew the motor within 6 months.
  • Honda CT70 scooter bike, cold in the winter.
  • Olds Delta 88, a real bomber, but it ran good.

You always know how to give a guy a good laugh Steve. lol

Cool rides nonetheless buddy.

My first ride was a 1966 Barracuda with 318 V-8 with a 2 barrel carburetor.

These pics were taken in 1985 with an old Kodak Disk camera and although grainy, here's pictures of my very first car. I've given thought a time or two getting the ol' girl back from the current owner as I know right where shes at..............rotting away in a field.

Oh boy... Mine wasn't a car, to start out with - But 2-wheels instead; '70 185. And it was in 'Suzuki Orange'. Didn't get a "car", til the Service, nearly 2 yrs later. - Put alot of miles on that bike, too.

This reminds me of my neighbors friend who had a competition edition of a Suzuki RM125 when we were younger. That thing was a beast!!!

Cool bike man!

In High School, I took Driver's training class in a 1970's Ford Pinto. Yes, the school's used to provide that class.

In High School, I didn't own a car, but my parents let me use their Chrysler Lebaron on some days to go to school and on dates. It was a boat. It was a tank. Seats were like Lazy Boy chairs.

Pops split in my graduation year of 1980 and gave me his 1978 Toyota Hilux pickup truck.... a 'take over payments of $137 a month' for 2 more years type of dealio. I drove that for awhile and bought a 1973 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 in 1980 as well. Wish hat I still had the Land Cruiser.

Moved on to Jeeps in the 1990's and never looked back to Toyota's offerings for serious offroad stuff. They just don't import solid front axle vehicles to the states anymore since the Suzuki lawsuits. But straight axle's rule.

Most everything cheap was a stick shift back then.... Now I miss having a stick shift.
