M51 super Sherman build

One issue with kit so far that I figured would write up in case someone else builds it.

The part that goes around the main gun, the skirt so to say had only two little tiny pins that aligns into holes on the lower part. The top part is springy and wider so it shears those pins right off. Fixed that using the rubber bands and super glue. The creases or ridges in the skirt are horrible as far as matching goas. I will fix that with a three sided small file to match up.

That was quick … I thought you had just started when you started talking about the canvas cover on the mantlet :)

Yeah I had lol... Was a productive few days. I have a lot of time since I am retired. Is wet outside as well here so waiting for it to dry out some so can put some atv trials in on property and do some land clearing. Once it drys out some I will get busier.

I can't speak to the level of 'authenticity', but to me the effect is that it stops looking like plastic and looks and feels like the metal it is meant to represent.
So like others have suggested, I now look at photos, look at other tracked vehicles (even at construction sites), to get a feel for what makes sense and is plausible.
I think you're doing a great job, with just enough to carry the illusion!

So as stated above I was not happy with part of it so.... I fixed that then was like let's try this... I decided to try to detail the casting marks on it... See what it looks like.

I have not decided to keep them but would appreciate peoples thoughts on what I did here... Should I keep them? Is it too much? So on.

In addition to the washes you've done, you could try to drybrush some highlights on the model. Use a lighter shade of the base color, or a light tan. Remove most of the paint from a wide brush and lightly go over the high points of the model. This should give it some more depth.
If you don't like the results, you could go back over with the base color or more washes, or a wash of the base color. I usually do multiple layers of washes and highlights of different shades until I reach the point where I like it.
There is really no wrong answer, if you don't like it, just paint over it. This is my favorite part of builds. :)
