I just finished a Lightning. Regarding the turbochargers I was thinking along the same lines as you but opted to try a matt coat and it made a huge difference for the better. Especially when the plan was coated in satin.
I find the same with Revell, all though never that bad!
Due to the poor fitting I've been sticking with Tamiya and Eduard.
I don't mind a little putty work but when there's more putty than plastic I draw the line.......lol
If I were to build a model airplane that had the least frustration,,,,,,,,,,,and putty, I'd be choosing Tamiya or Eduard. }
