Anyone using a vinyl or frisket cutter here?

The next step in cutting stencils or paint masks (as with any vinyl cutting) is weeding and premasking. Weeding is the removal of anything you don't want in the final positive or negative product. Then pre-mask, or transfer tape/film, is applied over the weeded vinyl to transfer the entire...

Anyone using a vinyl or frisket cutter here?

Cutting paint stencils/masks would be easy enough with a Cricut. Getting the dimensions right, might require some trial and error. I've seen my daughter cut some very fine stuff, but I think you are limited to Cricut's vinyls for this. Paint mask vinyls were generally a lower tack...

Anyone using a vinyl or frisket cutter here?

AS an ex-airbrusher/signpainter, yes, I used cutter cut stencils and paintmasks A LOT! But our printer cutter was 8ft long! For small stuff, like scale models, it gets more difficult to use sign vinyl and pro grade paint masks. The material can be just too thick if it has to go around very...

My Rat Fink and Weird-Oh Creations

Although I love everything that is/was Ed Roth, I never was a fan of the "creatures" in his models. Rat Fink is cool and funny, but the rest are...well not to my liking. Still, your builds are great. Weird Ohs are different and I like those characters. To me they look a lot more human, and...

Apollo CM Capsule post-re-entry Paper Model

No. The original Apollo CM kit was created by Ken West. Ken West is the American version of Uhu02, only less paranoid. Only true paper modelers will understand this. Ken has designed large scale and super detailed models of F84 Thunderbolt, XB-70 Valkyrie, B58 Hustler, X-15, SR-71, Apollo...

removing chrome from Salvinos Jr parts

Did you know drinking Bleach is safer than Coca Cola? Swimming pools, tap water, etc, whereas Coke sends you to the Dentist and the Doctor. lol I have been using bleach to soak off plastic chrome. I keep a plastic peanut butter jar (has a wide neck opening) with some bleach in it. Drop in the...

Do you find cooking and scale modeling are similar?

So what you are saying is there is a similarity between reading (a cook book) and reading (these pages). Reading is the same as reading. Things that make you say hmmm...what the heck you talkin' bout willis?!

    Aircraft lighting diagrams

I too was looking for the number of lights on a specific aircraft. And I was surprised to find out there were additional lights I did not know about. An original technical manual helps. I found an Operators Manual for this aircraft that explained the various lighting on the aircraft. How to...

Do you find cooking and scale modeling are similar?

I must admit, before I comment, that I have not read this entire thread. In fact, I got about 3/4 way thru the first page and then jumped to the end of the book (hoping to see the conversation had changed from "Marge's Recipe Corner" to "modeling for divorced dads") It hadn't. Do I find cooking...

    tariff madness!!

Simple fact is America cannot and has never subsisted on it's own. No country can. Countries remain friends and allies by sharing the planet and it's resources. Free trade and cross border/continent manufacturing is what trade alliances and country alliances are built on. It's easy to say it...

    Display cabinet

I let all my models collect dust. I call it "real world patina". Cheap weathering technique. FYI I use black foamcore to build lightweight shelves and raised displays for some models and to increase shelf space within the bookcases. Toothpicks and glue secretly hold the foamcore items together...

Tamiya Vintage 1/16 RC US Army M4 Sherman 105mm

in today's market, that's actually not a ridiculous price. people are asking a lot more for a lot less. I went looking for a "Mean Maverick" kit, but the $1000 price tags made me laugh. Like you say, this kit has metal parts and all the RC bits. Even a battery? don't think I'd ever pay that...

    Advice on shiny finish!

Haha I just realized how many swastikas are in the Hitler photo (I posted)! There wasn't any deep intent behind it. Just look at the car.

1/16 Scale Richard Petty 1973 Dodge Charger

Agreed As I said "I have hand-cut thinner widths from tape applied to glass." Unfortunately not everyone can cut straight...even with a rule! lol I keep a small piece of glass from a picture frame for just this. Just lay it on the bench and carefully apply a strip of masking tape. Make sure...

BSG "War of The Gods" 1/6 Scale Wall Display

LOL While I did like the Cylons, I hated the original BSG show...sorry... but I am very interested in the "music & sound" part of your display. ? I too have a project in mind that will have a motor and lights and sounds - all activated by a single button. My thinking is a small electronics board...

1/16 Scale Richard Petty 1973 Dodge Charger

You could drop into your local auto paint supply shop. Every town has at least one place where paint shops go for supplies. Ask them what fine masking tapes they have (and they will most likely show you many) Tapes can be had on places like amazon, or hobby supply sites. Look for known brand...

    Advice on shiny finish!

I think this is more realistic of a car of the day. Shiny but not mirror reflective (unless it's been highly polished like the above examples).
