Scrapping off the raised detail and going to add new framing with Evergreen strips. Also going to remove the rear doors.

Adding alignment tabs to the hood/radiator. No need to detail the engine as it will be all buttoned up.

New framing on inside, and then a quick mock-up. You can see the exterior framing I added as well.

Full mockup. Might look cool with hot rod wheels but I'm sticking with the original wooden spoke.

Starting in on the wood grain affect. I spray the parts first with Krylon Wild Oats (my favorite base color, but now out of production), then brush on Windsor & Newton Raw Umber water mixable oil color. I wipe this off with brushes and damp q-tips. This piece needs a little more work.

I'm avoiding oil-based paint, I just don't want to deal with them and their thinners, especially the odor. These are water-based oil, super easy.

Ya... only I like the smell - we'll see what the rest of the household thinks!
(a long time ago, on a planet far, far away, I used to paint on canvas) ... so I suspect it is for sentimental reasons.
I may end up the water based route by decree!
