A bit of star trek trivia...

Interesting, I couldn't see certain actor playing certain charactors, for example Reggie Jacson or Wesley Snipes as Gordie.

On a side note Geneviève Bujold was cast as Captain Janeway on Voyager for a day and a half, then fired/layoff .
Rumors has it she couldn't pull off the techno-babble.

Denise Crosby the only one worth mentioning for the role of Deanna Troi, and went on to play Tasha Yar....interesting.

Funny when you look back on it....can't see anyone else playing their respective roles.

Reggie Jackson and Wesley Snipes for the role of Geordi? Give me a break.

I see Rosalind Chao was to read for the role of Tasha Yar. She eventually got a different role a few seasons later, that of Keiko O'Brien.

That's cool. Thanx for sharing.
Like others here have said, I can't really imagine anyone else in those roles. :)

Thanks for sharing this, Grendels. Very interesting stuff.

Couldn't imagine Keiko O'brien as Tasha! Couldn't imagine any of them being different, but maybe Jenny Agutter as Dr Crusher. That would've been interesting.

DXM, I remember hearing that Kate Mulgrew wasn't the first to be cast for Janeway, but had no idea who the original was. Thank you for that. Just reading about her now and it seems she has quite an acting pedigree (oscar nominated), but wasn't up to the task of television. She has done no TV shows before or since Voyager.

Gads, she was AWFUL!
I take back EVERY bad thing I EVER said about Kate Mulgrew

Yeah, and when you see the comparison between the same scene with the two different actresses, you really see how Kate's performance brought all the characters together in a cohesive way.
I have done some acting on stage, and when there is good chemistry between the actors, it creates an energy, and the characters become natural and "real".
That is clearly evident with Kate, and hopelessly devoid with Genevieve. I am more of an ensemble actor. And I think that's where Kate Mulgrew's strength was. She was clearly giving the other cast members plenty to work with. :D

She's just terrible! After reading a bit about it the other day, I kind of feel sorry for her. She was a apparently crying in her trailer after the caretaker's farm scene. That was when they told her to go home. For an oscar-nominated actress, that must've been a real low point in her career.

I actually like Kate Mulgrew and thought she did a good job as Janeway. I just didn't like the way her character was written.
