BEEP BEEP, not the Roadrunner

No problemo, my bugaboo is that I don't have a lot of room left under that cap of mine to remember recent stuff; my wife reassures me that its because it is full of a lifetime of memories!

I appreciated your comment, so keep 'em coming!

2025winch.jpgThe fact that they, the US military during WWII, took the time to produce a cover for steel cable winch lines, makes me think of government waste. These vehicles were built to last maybe a decade. Basically for the term of the war. And surface rust on wire winch cable would hardly affect it's performance. It was just another "protective part" to remove. And most likely, in a combat or near-danger situation.

Those PTO (power take off) winches were epic in their operation. But dangerous to the untrained. But that's how they did winches back then. They were on the DUKW and deuce and a half's, M3 halftracks, on CMP trucks and tractors. Etc. Etc.

Moderna tech has it's advantage. Electric winches.

Pic attached is my steel wire winch cable on my 1992 Jeep. That's been on the Jeep about 15 years in the snow and rain. Uncovered.
