A couple of years ago I started a project that eventually became the "Walking Tank". That was my first scratch/kitbash model. Since then I have been racking by brain in search of another project like that. I have been watching NylonGag MK1 spaceship being built and it has got my wheels turning. So with that in mind I have desided to start my own. I have already started collecting parts. Some from a couple of Star Wars kits others from a F-18 kit. I have the basic design worked out, but to help illustrate the basic layout here is a drawing of where I am kinda heading.

Now I want you to imagine this layout only a couple of generations earlier and you may be able to guess where I intend to go with this.

I am using parts from a A-wing, pod racer and a F/A-18 kit. It will eventually have four pod racer engines. The scale of this beast will be roughly 1/48. I think I have the general layout of the ship so here is how it's looking. I don't have any hope of matching the detail of Nylon's build, but I will try to make it interesting. Thanks for looking and comments are welcome.

Yeah I like it! The front end (a wing) will definitely get the flow of the model going! And those pod racer engines are lush arn't they!

They at least give me a good foundation for added detail.

Thanks

This looks like an awesome project MrT, Bookmarked for sure.

My advice is, start collecting anything you see with an interesting shape, i mean ANYTHING.
I have a big box full of spice caps, pouring spouts, plastic tubes of all different sizes from various products I'm currently using Throat syrup measuring caps for little booster nozzles.... ;D

Save everything my friend.

Great advice!! When I went to University and poor I used to build things like this, but I have since got out the habit of collecting. It's coming back to me quickly.

Dude! I loved Wing Commander, I begged my parents to buy a computer so I could play that game, lol. Some really fun memories of it.

I'd love to see you build some wind commander ships, very nice designs. Looks like you're off to a good start already! Keep us posted.

Thanks! It may not look exactly like a wing commander ship.

A little bit of an update. The forward and aft sections are now attached completing the base assembly. I used brass and aluminum tubing to get this done. Now I can start filing in the blanks and adding some detail. Thanks for looking and comments are welcome.

I like it....
That engines looks tight!
The whole ship kinda reminds me of a toy that came out in the early 80s called "Starbird".
