The Galactica build is now finished.
I gave the whole model a sealer coat in semi-gloss, then set to giving her battle damage.
The damage technique I used here was fairly simple.
I placed a small spot of Testors tube cement on the section I wanted to damage, and then lit the glue with a match.
After it had burned enough, I put out the flames.
(Be VERY careful with this technique)

A look inside the port flight pod.
(Bear in mind that this opening is actually only about 1/2" across)

Another fine build Quaralane. Nice!

Re: BSG-75 Galactica-Updated 1/19

All right, after seeing some of the builds at SSM, and some of the feedback I've gotten, I went in and redid (or, more accurately, DID) some weathering on the Galactica.
Nothing fancy here, just added a black wash to what had already been done.

Re: BSG-75 Galactica-Updated 1/19

I think the weathering helped her out quite a bit. Gave it some depth. ;D

Re: BSG-75 Galactica-Updated 1/19

Thanks, Grendels.
The main complaint I was getting was that she looked too clean, too toy-like

Re: BSG-75 Galactica-Updated 1/19

I also think that weathering is just the right thing this babe required. Looks really cool, well done!

Re: BSG-75 Galactica-Updated 1/19

My thoughts as well, after seeing her finished like this.
Thanks, Solander

quality model well impressed. got one of these to do when i think my skillz are up to it don't want to cock it up

Re: BSG-75 Galactica-Updated 1/19

She's a well-engineered kits with only a couple of flaws, thestickyone. I do recommend getting the Paragrafix etch set for her

WOW that is a great looking build you did the girl proud

Re: BSG-75 Galactica-Updated 1/19

Love the battle damage technique. Glue & fire! It's all good.

Really nice build.

Thanks, guys.
I have another one in the stash that's waiting for me to lay out the armor for her

Re: BSG-75 Galactica-Updated 5/20/2012

Resurrecting this thread after so long because it really HAS been updated.

All right,
After working on the Solaria, I got to looking at her sister, the Galactica, and decided that she needed a repaint to look more like the "sister" ship that she is.

That, and Galactica just didn't look 'right' to me anymore.

So, that being said, I took the Galactica and gave her a new basecoat of black.
Followed that with the same aluminum color I used on the Solaria.
Then, I gave her a black wash and wiped off the excess.

That done, I redid her markings using the spares from the second Paragrafix Etch set.
I weathered her damage using a drybrush of Vallejo Smoke.
