Some of you may remember this build from a long while back. The plane had been sitting in a box for well over a year (the original base warped badly).

So after supper I decided to haul this out and give it a new life. Really my goal was to try out some groundwork, especially static grass...just to learn/experiment a bit. I weathered the GeeBee a bit, as if to simulate a major oil leak that forced the pilot to land in a rough field.

At least now this can take a spot on the shelf, instead of inside a box.

More old/unfinished builds finishing up soon!

The new base really adds. Nice to see an older build spruced up a bit. Cool.

Thanks! It was a fun evening project.

Static Grass is a model railroader product that is tiny fibers of 'grass'. You sift the 'grass' onto a base covered with glue using a tool that charges the surface with static electricity - and the grass stands up.

I love the styling your giving your bases Scott.
The raised center section of interest with the black side walls and flat base also in black is a bit different from the usual flat board, i think this method of yours realy highlights the subject and puts it on more of a 'pedistal' by raising it up a bit.
You acheived a similar effect on the Meng pickup dio also. I may be stealing this idea in the future ;D

That grass is also excellent does it come with the little leaves and stuff & is this the first time you've used it?

A very nice little dio ;D

Gag

Thanks Gag. The static grass is Scenic Express, the rest is Armor Farm.

Yeah, I saw that style of base at a show and loved it. Kinda like a clean lined frame for a photo. No routering, nothing...just a piece of 3/4" MDF painted black. The raised part is simply the 3/4" foam I make the groundwork with. The edge isn't super clean, I think in the future I'll rip very thin strips (veneer) of MDF and clean up those edges.

Thanks!

Now that is a neat trick.

What in the name of Ichabod Crane did you do to that 'sapling', wrestle it away from Chloe?

;D

Now all you need to do is look at this scene long and hard and embrace that feeling of completion. Then, do something similar with the Spitfire, then again with the Tilly and every model from here on out.

You did have me scared with that Wampa idea though, I was about to go all Yoda on you in Skype...

WAMPA - no kidding. Funny I didn't get an email about that one.

I figured I'd wait and give you a chance to mull it over, realize you were backsliding into old habits and change your mind all on your own and it worked. 8)

I must say, it was a feeling like no other. As if I just watched my son drive off to college.

LAWL

LOL. Momentary lack of....something. Besides..I have an AT-AT to build.

Man I'm grooving on the Gary Wright...great tune. Picture that...me grooving to that tune. Scary.
