So, I have decided that after I finsih up on my B-17 that I am going to attempt the Harrier. I have had such an amazing time working on the B-17 that I am tempted just to build another WWII bird, but this kit is sitting in my closet begging to be built. Something about the USMC aircraft that screams "Don't mess with me!" I look at them and say wow that looks like fun. Anyway, I am not going to get around to starting the kit for a few weeks, my in laws just got into town and I want to finsih up the B-17 before this kit. Oh yeah, I also ordered the Eduard PE set which should get in just in time. I am really excited for all the detail, but also a little nervous. The only real experience I have with PE is seat belts on 1/24 cars... Oh well, I gotta start somewhere right. Anyways, if anybody has any tips or suggestions on the kit, especially what paints to use. I have been using a lot of Model Masters paints as I am in Sothern CA, and Tamiya is just getting over their US shipping issues.... I wont be updating this thread for a while, but I would love to hear from you guys that have built this kit or ones similar. Also, any tips on the PE.

Thanks again!!!!

I just got the email. My PE set just shipped out!!!! Now, how long will it take to get here. I can't wait!!!!

Just love the Harrier.

My Dad built the Airfix 1/24th for me when i was a nipper.

Great to watch the VTOL caperbilities at the local airshow also when i was a nipper in England.

Will follow this with interest when you finish the B17.

Good choice

Hey , why wait till you finish the B-17 before starting another. I always have at least two kits going at a time, at present I am working on 4 kits, The Stuka 1/24, two Spitfires 1/48, and a F-86 1/48. The Stuka build is primary and with all the interior and scratchbuilding I have had time to put together the others as they are single seat 1/48 scale planes that really just have two halves to put together so they build up quick. Now I am in the painting phase of all 4 so with four I have plenty of work to keep busy while the others are drying.

So I say get on with it lets see some Harrier. Good Luck!!!!

James,

Thank you again for the encourgment, on this build and the B-17. Unfortunatly I am still waiting on the Eduard PE set for the Harrier. Don't worry, as soon as I get it in i'm going to go at it.

Thanks again,

Adam

I would like to build a harrier someday in the same markings as the one I saw at an airshow, but none of the USMC Harrier kits look fun to build.

I've never been fond of working with PE. You can use white glue, CA, epoxy, or some clear paint (I know Tamiya works) to attach PE. I don't have one of those fancy bending jigs so I just use razor blades and a metal ruler or stryene rod/tubing for round pieces. Heating PE can make it easier to work with.

I've also never been a fan of Eduard's pre-painted PE. The colors are often wrong and it looks toy-like. Applying clear flat and possibly a filter can definitely help. There are probably a couple filter tutorials on this forum.

I'll be watching this one.
