The first model I ever remember putting together was a Piper Cub or some other single engine plane. I don't remember a lot about it other than I fogged up the windows with the cement and left my fingerprints all over it.
Over the years I attempted to assemble a few other models. I remember an F-14, an F-15, and the AMT Enteprise from around the time of Star Trek IV. On none of these did I take a lot of time or attempt to do a good job. The closest I came to finishing one was the F-14, which I decaled but did not paint. I don't know where any of these are now.
For the least few years I have picked up models here and there, but never tried assemble them. That changed in June. I began assembling the Academy model of the USS Eisenhower. With around 100 parts, that might not have been a good first project. However, I did my best and actually took my time in assembling it, correcting flaws such as seams, and painting. I can truly say it is the first model I have ever assembled correctly. It took me approximately two months to finish it.
Since then, my "stash" has begun to grow. I made a list of models I thought I might want to assemble, and have somehow managed to acquire two or three of them a month. I have started several in the last few months, but the one I am currently closest to finishing is AMT's 1950 Chevrolet 3100 pickup. Maybe I'll even post pictures of it.
My skills have begun to grow as I work on brush painting fine details, using rattle cans, and using my airbrush.
I hope this turns out to be more than a phase for me.
