Hi All

Thought I'd share my latest project the Hobby Boss Pz.Kpfw. 1 (VK601).

The build went pretty straight forward as is usual with Hobby Boss kits, the one serious error of the kit is that the track links won't fit the drive wheel. I have seen a few reviews (after I bought this kit!) and the number of teeth on the wheel is incorrect so the track links are too big. Never mind I just cut off 10 of the teeth on the drive wheel and you'd never know the difference!

I wanted to try something different with the paint so I had a go at some partial colour modulation. I was going the whole hog but I didn't decide until after the on board equipment was fitted so a full job would have been tricky.

I primed in dark panzer grey then mixed a little white and a touch of navy blue into the mix to give a bit of a more colourful look, just avoiding the deep shadow areas. Then I added some more white to this mix and this was sprayed on the horizontal and slope areas to start the highlights off, followed by adding a little more white for the final highlights.

Once dry I used the final mix to pick out some of the higher detail on the tank and then painted in the tools.

Hi Guys

Been working hard on this build and I'm all finished up.

After the colour modulation I used oils to fade and dirty the paint then left it to dry for a few days. Once dry I applied a satin varnish and then I dirtied it up further with some AK mud and dust enamels. After the initial colour mod it did look a bit stark, but the weathering really tones that down and unifies it.

I mixed some real earth up with white glue and water and applied this to the tracks and lower chassis with a few different acrylics added to give some contrast.

The base was made from a short balsa frame filled with plaster which is becoming my standard practice now so I can get the exact size I want. Then real earth mixed with white glue again was applied to the base and once dry I played around with various grasses, mainly Mininatur to get an overgrown look. The final touch was a satin varnish and unifying blast with some green from the airbrush. The figure was from Miniart painted with acrylics

Anyway here's the pictures

I think I might even be a bit braver on the colour modulation on the next build

Thanks for looking

Hi swanningabout

I actually mixed the colour up till it looked right. I think it was vallejo blue (dark) and german grey and then lightened it with sea blue to get the highlights
