Italeri Oshkosh mobile settlement

Hi Guys

I'm planning to make use of the Italeri Oshkosk M977 as a mobile settlement, a kind of fortified home on wheels.

I'm thinking of up armouring it with metal panels, having sleeping quarters above the load bed, which will be stacked with supplies, gun emplacements, and any other cool things I can think of.

Maybe even a motorbike lashed to the rear for added mobility.

If anyone has any suggestions to add to this I woukd be glad to hear them.

Wow, what a wicked vehicle for this theme. It's size alone gives you so many options for adding stuff. It will be a blast watching where you go with this.

Hi Guys

Recieved the Oshkosh today, couldn't wait to start building!

The first impression is that this will be a big vehicle when done, about 28cm long.
Heres the sprue view:

And heres what the basic chassis looks like

Theres quite a bit of flash compared to more modern kits, but it scrapes off easy enough and I think will build together well

Got a bit more built now, most of the cab and the load bay and the wheels, I won't attach the cab and wheels yet as I have plans to detail both off the truck. I will probably create access from the rear to the cab through the top of the cab.
Also I am going to try creating armoured wheel covers that look like they have been cut from steel plates / scrap steel from signs etc... to give this an improvised look

Also I have put in a figure to show an idea of scale

Also I had a bit of a panic as whe n I fixed the two rails with fins that support the load bay I hadn't made sure they were both vertical. When I came to fit the load bay this meant it wouldnt glue properly. Luckily I found a piece of balsa strip the correct width and ran this down between the rails spreading them to the correct width and diverting disaster! You wont be able to see the balsa when finished

Lastly I had a couple of accessory kits turn up to go with this build, an Academy set for stowage:

And a Tamiya JGSDF kit mainly for the bike to strap to the HEMTT, although the figures look better than the usual Tamiya offerings so they will probably go in the mix too

Just a quick update on the build.

I have been trying to figure out how the additions should look, so decided to make it from cardboard first to get an idea of how it will go together.

I'm thinking the centre enclosed section will be sleeping / living quarters, the very back section for storage.
The top sections are for gun emplacements / lookout and will include some post apocalyptic sun shades I think
I will also put half an oil barrel as a BBQ (we'll still need somewhere to cook in the future!) somewhere and various seats, living implements, etc... scattered aroiund, without getting too bogged down on too much detail.
Heres the first section progress made from plastic stock (is doesn't show in the photos but the beige stock is chequer plate)

And I knocked together the scrambler from the Tamiya set, ready to mount on the truck somewhere
