Got this kit from JPG Castings to do a nice preview build for y’all so you can see all it’s splendor at Wonderfest. Initial impressions are that it is a very massive piece of resin! It’s definitely some heavy artillery!!! There are a few dozen parts, most of them are small hand railings and turret barrels. Everything is cast really cleanly, there are no bends, snaps, bubbles or any such thing. A little bit of flash here and there on the smallest bits, but it helps keep them intact until I’m ready to trim and assemble them. I had to strain my eyes to find the mold seams on the beefier parts. The kit breakdown is also well thought out and will be a breeze. There are some pour stubs to remove but they are in hidden locations, minimizing the need for any putty. The detail is also nice and crisp, especially in a lot of the underside mechanics areas.

I still am impressed by what a hunk of resin this is. It FEELS like a tank! I did the best I could putting all the little bits on without the instructions (which are still being developed). There are plenty of references out on the web that helped pretty awesome. I did mix up the turret antennae bases and the little cannon barrels...not a big deal, really.

Also, I ended up using some solder in place of some of the little hooks, etc. Again, not a big deal at all. The pieces are there, I just chose not to use them exactly.

A little bit of riveting on the base piece

Grenade launchers fit perfectly

I used a bunch of magnets so the turrets can rotate and used some brass in the main barrel so it can pivot up and down. This is a lean machine!

All of the piping fit into their places pretty perfectly. There were only a couple of issues where the ‘rod’ was a little too long for the hole. Easily fixed by either trimming the part or drilling the hole a little deeper.

The major fit issues were the side cannon mounts and the main body to the half-saucer base piece. Both of those issues have a root in the master and can fixed with a little sanding and Aves. Simple.

Thanks to the magnets, the major parts were a breeze to prime and will be a breeze to paint. Having fun with this one. Since this will be a display piece for WF it has become more of an OOB build…I’ll have to pick up another kit to do a nice dio later this year with some figures and grass.

Mad props to Meister Screw for his master and Jimi for the casting! This is a reaally cool build and you should all pick one up at WF!!! Stay tuned for more painting progress!!!!

Cool! Some great detail there. Can't believe how fast you work Nick. Nice job dude! 8)

So I'm going to try something new on this one: silver undercoat. I sprayed on some Bare Metal Silver from a Tamiya rattle can and then put a couple THIN layers of Future over the whole thing, giving it a nice "fresh off the line" look.
aatc_img_6356.jpg

As for the initial base coat of yellow, I mixed up some Tamiya flat yellow, Testors Acryl flesh tint base and Testors Acryl Zinc Chromate Yellow (I think that's what the bottle says anyway...). Don't be fooled by the color balance in these pics! It's much more drab in person!

aatc_img_6345.jpg

While the Future coats were drying I did some paint testing to see how well the yellow would apply and chip off the undercoat. Turns out it's pretty FN brilliant, especially with that shiny undercoat peeking through!
aatc_img_6353.jpg

One other test was to see how Micro Mask works on the surfaces. I was worried that it would pull the acrylic off the Future but it didn't!

aatc_img_6359.jpg

So that means masking and painting will be SHARP! The last test was with a flat coat on the pre-chipped yellow to seal it. AWESOME. That means that I can layer on the different main sections, do some weathering, clear coat it, then do the chipping and additional weathering!

Oh boy! This'll be fun. I've got a mix of Mig pigments & washes as well as some Tamiya pigments to throw on her...the dirty girl...Stay tuned!

Done :D :D :D
