Hi Guys

Just thought I'd share my latest project a Nitto 1/20 Heinrich kit, which I will build on a small diorama base.

I've had this kit a few weeks and have been itching to get started, but now I've finally cleared the decks of other projects!

The kit is wicked, its beautifully packaged, lots of extras included almost seems a shame to open it!

Can you tell I'm excited? I'm sure I'll be posting again soon!

OPEN IT OPEN IT. ;)
I will be watching this to see how ya do with it.
I have still not built any Ma.K. kits...

Cheers Mike

Im wondering how ill do with it myself!

This one is a bit daunting when there are so many awesome ma.k builds about, but ive really been looking forward to it.
Lets hope i can do it justice!

Hi Guys

Been a bit poorly this week (man flu!) so not got as much done as I hoped, but heres the progress:

The kit went together pretty easily, although there were a few alignment issues on som of the prts so plenty of sanding during the process.
As there are a lot of great Ma.k builds out there I have taken my time and tried to add details to make it more interesting. First I wanted a cast texture on the torso and legs, so I acheived this by good old plastic glue poured on, left a few seconds then with a cheap stiff brush cut down I stippled in the cast texture. This actually works really well, as it is easy to control and saves buying extra surfacing solution! You can see in the first picture the stippled part against the plain plastic

You can easily leave out parts such as the flap at the bottom right of the next picture

Once I had textured the parts I wanted to, I stretched out some sprue to create the weld beads. This is a first for me and took a few go's to get the correct thickness, once I had these were stuck on...

...and then covered with more plastic glue, then stippled again with an old fine brush with no bristles

I added some greebles from the spares box to give more interest to the engine and also added an antenna and mount and some inspection plates on the forearms from plastic stock

As is my custom I will be putting this on a diorama base, with some steps leading up to a shelter built into a hillside, with the pilot sitting on the steps resting.
To create the steps I cut a frame from foamboard to hold the steps

then cut individual steps from more foamboard, which will be given more texture later on.

I think thats all for this week, so I'll be posting again soon

Thanks for looking

That pose will make your diorama stand out from the pack for sure, looks cool. Those models aren't at all easy to pose. I just wish this kit had better weapons.

Hi All, thanks for the interest in this build and your great comments

I've turned my attention to the base now, I started by cut the backing from some stiff black card so i can mount all the detail on it, then scratched a bunker door from plastic stock, with a 1/35 tank wheel for the door handle / wheel.

I also wanted to have a go at doing some basic lighting, so I bought a prewired set of 3 LED's.

A white light for above the door which will have a lens cut from a paracetamol bubble pack.
A green light which I have made a frame for a hand print recognition panel thingy, which I backed with aluminium foil to stop the light bleeding through the plastic.
A red light which I will leave as a bare LED as a 'locked light' for the door.

I heavily distressed the foam board steps with a wire brush and then covered with a light grey acrylic and then a black wash to bring out the detail

I airbrushed the door with black and dark grey shades, the next step will be to mask the door front and then cover with yellow to create hazard stripes, before some heavy weathering / rusting

To make the surround look like it is cut into a rock face I cut some wall insulation block foam roughly to cretae the texture and then glued it in place with white glue.

This is a new technique for me, it needs a bit of refining yet so fingers crossed!
And heres the work so far

Hi All

Been a busy week this week, life getting in the way of modelling!

I have managed to get a bit done on this build, I've even resisted the temptation to start on my next project a Dragon RSO/3, to ensure I give all my attention to Heinrich!

I masked the hazard lines on the door and sprayed with yellow, but I did bring some of the paint off with the masking tape, but easily solved with a bit of touching up and a number for the door.

I also started on the Heinrich, with a base coat of Vallejo primer, a bit of masking with blue tack, a coat of light brown some more blue tack a coat of green and then a gloss coat to seal

Theres more detail painting to be done yet and some oils filters / washes

when you build the RSO don't bother with the whole drive shat as it wont be seen just the bit that sticks out the back, the suspension is a Dogs dinner actually the whole bottom half of that kit is, :D

the door looks great Leighbo

Awesome scene here. I've enjoyed reading this thread, some great work and diorama skills, something I really want to get into and learn more about.

Great stuff! 8)

Thanks for the advice on the RSO Spud, I had read a review that said similar, it'll save some time anyway!

I wanted the RSO/1, but I picked this kit up for £25 with the Pak 38 so I couldn't resist, I am going to have my first go at sculpting some legs / arms of soldiers sitting in the back and maybe on the gun, which is why I wanted an RSO.

Igard, thats what I enjoy about diorama's that you get to try your hand at all sorts of techniques, just jump in and have a go mate!
