Hey guys thought I'd just show you my friends Abrams that I painted for him. He came with me to the LHS and got all excited after building/painting his first kit (1/72 Revell Jagdpanther the threads here somewhere) that I gave him. He was like a bull in a china shop and ran around picking up kits under his arm lol, in the end we left with an Airfix 1/48 help the hero's spitfire (included paints and glue) and this Abrams kit. He started the Tank first and brought it round mine a couple of months ago to paint. With the sun out and the pub calling all he managed to do was give it a coat of Nato green Vallejo primer. Its been sitting out in my shed ever since, the other day I asked him what was happening with it and he replied "Oh can you just paint it for me". Bit of a shame but I'll make him do the spit lol.
Anyway I got this all done this morning, base coat, free hand camo, transfers, washes, mud effects and pigments. All products used were AK Interactive.
Unfortunately a few parts are wrong and broken due to it being bashed about in a shed for 3 months but I hope he'll be pleased with the result and that you guys like it, sorry for the long winded intro lol.

Absolutely stunning work there MJ, the mud there looks very real, interestingly you posting that reference photo above, I was driving behind a construction lorry the other day and it was raining a bit, and I noticed quite a large difference in the shades of the wet and dry mud on the truck and also matt & wet looking, has anyone tried to recreate that look?

Thanks J, I know what you mean. I work with tractors and diggers etc so in the winter when we get messy I see that quite a bit.

Aha, now I understand.....you've got an abundant source of reference on how weathering really appears!...you work with 1:1 scale, ha

Very inspiring work (as always)

J
