Okay, with the caveat that I only paint in water-based acrylics - Citadel, Hataka, Humbrol, Vallejo etc. and Tamiya Sprays, I've been using these for over two years now (it's next to impossible to brush paint a decent coat of clear) with some really good results.

I use a gloss coat to seal the paint ready for decals. After decals I seal them in with another coat of gloss and then either a semi or matt coat depending on what I'm painting. You have to mask the clear parts regardless of what spray you use, and I'm not sure but I'd suggest you mask the chrome parts as well - I think. You may have check that on a test piece. Do mask the clear parts though - it'll wreck them.
