Thought I would have a little fun with a quick build 1/72 over the weekend while waiting for a new bike kit to arrive.

Loads of flash and poor fitting joints so alot of making good to do. I'm weirdly looking forward to it..... Pantherman

And it a absolutely perfect fit wings to fuselage........ if you have your eyes shut and in another room !!!!! These have got to be some of the biggest gaps on a build that I have seen. Pantherman

I find the same with Revell, all though never that bad!
Due to the poor fitting I've been sticking with Tamiya and Eduard.
I don't mind a little putty work but when there's more putty than plastic I draw the line.......lol

Wow that gap is huge, are you sure the dihedral angle is proper...maybe try lifting the wing tips up to close the gap...? just guessing
Good suggestion, I will bend it a bit and tape it in place so hopefully when the putty sets it will hold. Pantherman

I've seen better cockpit designs on 1960s FROG kits!
I've seen more accuracy and better surface details on 1/144 kits!

Apparently 80 years of knowledge (of P-51 layout) was completely ignored for this model.

The instrument panel is down at his knees (LOL), cockpit sides are apparently 8" of armour plate,
and the area behind the seat - where the fuel tank and radio usually are - is no more.

And what the heck is that thing sticking out in front of the pilot?
Seems to be some sort of in-flight fold-out table with a Magic 8-Ball attached.
Is that a new "Navigation" system?

I'm sure you will do wonderful things to this model, but that is just pathetic from a veteran model maker like Revell..

I think it's called poetic license...... or the designer had the week off. Pantherman

You could throw a Frisbee between those wing roots.
Do they even belong to that kit?
LOL, somebody heard you say quick.

I wonder if your 1/72 Mustang is from the original Revell, pre-merger. That would make it 57 years old. I wouldn't be surprised by any fit issues.

Before they were merged with Monogram, Revell had a decent-enough catalog of 1/72 aircraft. I always admired the pics of the built-up models in the Revell catalog. The P-51D, the P-40E, the P-37, P-36, a Wildcat, a P-47D bubbletop, and numerous other Allied and Axis fighters. Spitfire, Hurricane, a Zero, a Tony, a George, etc. Some WWI aircraft, too. Sold individually and some in sets of 3 kits in one package. But the quality reflected the times.

The 1/48 P-51D that Down Time posted is actually Monogram's kit, rereleased under the Revell label. Revell did have a P-51D in 1/48, but it wasn't released after the merger. I got one to build side-by-side with Monogram's just to see.

Revell also pantographed down their 1/32 P-40E to 1/48. That was the basis for the ProModeler P-40E, with a couple Monogram figures added to the sprue. It's a nice enough kit.

Sorry, you guys made me nostalgic...
