Scooby Doo mystery machine

Good to know because they have this at our hobby lobby and my wife wanted to try and make it. She has never built a model and thought maybe she'd give it a try. I doubt she ever will but just incase I will steer her away from this.

Zoiks! Like, really cool, man! I think you've earned yourself some Scooby snacks!

It is not a good model. Many bad fit issues.

Both Scooby and Shaggy are vinyl. They attach to the seats with pins that push through holes in the seat. Those pins are very soft and won't hold well.

The headlights and other lights do not snap fit. They push into their sockets and just fall out afterwards.

The chrome housings for the lights are only held onto the body of the van with a pin. That pin does not fit well enough with friction to hold it in place once pushed into the socket. One one of the headlights, the pin was in the wrong location anyway and I had to just ignore it.

The floor pan and the undercarriage of the van come pre-assembled in the van body. The problem is that this is a pretty tight fit, and if you are not careful, you will break the pins that connect them as you try to remove the bottom of the van to put the figures inside. (I did this) Once those pins are broken, they will not go together very well afterwards. I spent 15 minutes getting them aligned and clamped with glue.

When you try to put the undercarriage and the van body together, the fit is pretty tight and if you are not careful you will knock Shaggy and Scooby loose and have to take it apart and put it back together again. This is why I hit Shaggy with the soldering iron to hold him in place. I wish I had done that with Scooby as well. He came out repeatedly. Once I put the van body and the undercarriage together, I had to put Scooby in the seat with my fingers reaching all the way through the van. This was not fun nor easy, Scooby barely fits over the seat, and then you have to get his pin in the hole in the seat with little room to maneuver with.

Then came the back doors of the van. They did not fit on correctly. The top locator pin was fine, it was the bottom one that was bad. The hole for it went through both the undercarriage and the van body itself. These holes do not align properly. So I had to get out the drill and fix the hole. Once the hole was fixed then I had to file down the back side of the door to get it into position and to allow it to open properly.

The tires, wheels, bumpers and the upper rails for the luggage rack fit fine. But all required glue to stay in place.

The stickers around the lower half of the body were too large and I had to trim them down to get them to fit correctly.

If you know what you are doing, you can build this kit and make it look good. But for a beginner, not a chance.

Go find a nice Revell snap kit, those are worth the money!

Can you tell I was not happy with this kit?

It was Old Man Withers who designed this kit! He wanted to keep everyone away from scale modeling.

"And I'd 've gotten away with it, too, if it hadn't been for you meddling kids!"

:D
