Hey Guys,

So here is my first build, the Tamiya 1/35 T55 "Enigma"

I've spent hours watching YouTube videos and trolling forums to see what and how people are painting, weathering etc. but this is my first build and any tips and ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

Look over at Tamiya for some interesting history about the Enigma and why it has no decals (yeah, thought I opened a resealed box when I saw no decals :p)

oh very nice, tamiya kits are a good place to start into modeling, very well made and it all goes together very easy :).

good lick and looking forward to seeing your progress

Looking forward to that one !!

Take care !

You can't go wrong with a Tamiya Kit !

The "Shake N Bake" of scale models... add Glue... shake the box and Voila !!!

Good luck !

looking forward to seein this come along..its already been said you've started with a good model and tamiya wont let you down

So after a few weeks I have finally finished my first build ;D

Hardest part was painting and assembling the machine gun on the turret.

I have done light weathering on the tracks, exhaust and barrel muzzle. Just need to apply a clear coat before attempting any more weathering.

I'll have more of a build progress with my next build which should be very soon! And any tips and recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

thats definitely a great job you did on the build! 8) especially for your first!

my only recommendation would be to add a bit more wear and tear to the vehicle so it looks like its seen its share of use. maybe add some rust, chipping, dust, etc. (of course thats just my personal preference. i like to give a sense of where and how the vehicle was used)

Yes, that is definitely something I want to do. Will try the techniques on some cheaper models from the LHS

Very nice finish for a first, and Defo get some cheap kits to practice one this one can look killer when you get the hang of the chipping and weathering

Very clean build. Are those the kit rubber band tracks ?? Wish Tamiya would get up to date and finally do some decent tracks.

Looking forward to the painting and weathering.

Thanks and yes rubber tracks that you need to glue the ends together to complete the track.

Pretty Impressive ! See ! Shake N Bake !!! from last time you posted to just now... BOOM the kit is built!!!

and it looks great !

Keep up the good work !

Great job on your first build! I will be starting my first armor build soon. Thanks for sharing.

what was this kit like to put together, i have been reading an article in one of the tamiya magazines and it states there are several hundred parts to this kit but you don't have to use them all, was there a lot of parts left over?

Correct, there are A LOT of parts left not needed with this easy build. The most difficult thing I found was the machine gun assembly on the turret :)

This is just Tamiya's previous T-55 release, with the Enigma specific parts added to it, so it would stand to reason that there would be a few parts from the original kit not used on the Enigma version. Nothing new when it comes to Tamiya kits and multiple versions of the same subject.

Its like when you build a Dragon kit. Sometimes it seems like you don't use half the parts.

Love the job you did on it esp. with it being your first. A little bit of weathering will really make it pop. I have a bit of a soft spot for the T55.

Cheers

Jeff,

I've never actually built a dragon kit.... got a few of their kits in my stash but never got around to building them.

That's your 1st armour build? Wow! Nice job & welcome to the Tread-Head club. Can I offer up a quick tip for some easy weathering to make that beast pop? Apply an oil wash to accent the finer details, seal it with a clear dull-coat then a dusting with some weathering pigments or ground pastels. Not too extreme, but you'll be amazed at the details that will come alive. Can't wait to see what you do next.
