Pingvuiini, nice rust effects. What paint or wash did you use to achieve this rust detail?

Thanks for the comments and critiques.

Tanker 52: I tried acrylics at first but the water based nature of acrylics didn't behave like I wanted it to. So I went back to the oils and mineral spirits to cover up the acrylic weathering. Oils and mineral spirits are stinkier than acrylics but more fun!

Nice effects!

Does this represent and operational vehicle or was this a painting excercise?

Hi MrT!

Re effects - For diorama purposes this could represent a very well used but still (barely) operational vehicle. I generally overweather all my models just because I enjoy it, even though I know its not real-world realistic. Here are other samples from the painting and weathering forum:

Looking sweet, I really love the grime and rust. Seen this at hobby lobby and thought of buying it many times.

Looks amazing  I built this kit a long time ago. I think I'm going to throw it away because this is what it should look like lol
