After a long time not posting anything of mine here, I decided it was time to share the latest build.
Using the 1/1000 USS Enterprise-Discovery version, as well as some 3d printed custom parts, I decided to update an older kitbash of mine.
The original version was bashed from the 1/1000 Polar Lights TOS Enterprise and Klingon Battlecruiser.
Sadly, the end result of this looks very much like a kitbash, and not a very cohesive design.
I redesigned the ship, basing it on a different design of mine, and using the 1/1000 Discovery Enterprise as a basis.
The hull addition was designed in Tinkercad, and then 3d printed at 1/2500 scale as a test of theory.
With the test print done, I 3d printed the hull addition at 1/1000 scale along with some additional 3d printable parts I picked up from the ModelWerks site.
While I would normally have designed my own markings for her, I opted, this time, to have them printed up by G-Cals decals.
Now, I would love to say that things went perfectly, and I have a fantastically perfect model to share.
I would be lying.
The two halves of the hull addition would up just slightly out of line when I epoxied them together.
I accidentally crazed the upper bridge window slightly when I glued the insert into place.
When I glued the addition to the kit saucer, I found that I had missed my alignment slightly. This resulted in a slightly crooked ship.
When I did my first layout of the decals, I put them on straight over the paint without even thinking about it.
When I hit them with a matte sealant coat, they frosted slightly, but obviously.
Luckily, I am still obsessive about scanning decals into my computer before using them, so I could readily print our a replacement set.
This time, I gloss-coated the whole model, THEN put on the decals. When I sealed them this time, I had no problems.
To get the brighter pennants, I used the kit supplied decals rather than the printed ones as they had a white coat under them.
I used a couple of old PL 1/1000 TOS Enterprise decal sheets to get me the added windows I wanted.
All in all, I'm still fairly happy with how it all turned out.
