I went to use my Modelmakerz pigments . My Staghound would have been active in Europe so I thought I'd try the pigs on the wheels. I noticed that the European Dirt was a bit on the red side. I've never been to Europe but I didn't expect it to be so red (looks like P.E.I.). Does anybody know what would be a good colour of dirt from one of the Western European countires. I sure it changes from country to country, but Belgium in particular?

I noticed the Desert Sand pig is very yellow. I can't see it being that yellow either.

Northern Germany is mostly sand and loam...so somewhat like on the right except a bit lighter with wifts of white mixed in the strata.

Holland....I was hammered in Holland. Sorry.

Regards

I reckon Modelmakerz hasnt been to Europe either !!! Actually ,if you tried mixing a touch of the yellow pig into the brown ,it might not be too far away .

Chris.

these are Mig pots of Europe Dust on the left and light Europ earth on teh right. i wouldnt use those they look wrong, they could prob be better used for a base or somthing,

Thanks guys. Ya I thought they must be off. Too vibrant I would think.

Chris I did put one over the other and it still wasn't quite right. Maybe if I mix them before application it would look better.

Spud, those Mig examples are more of what I would expect.

I mean really who's to say? Is anybody here from Belgium?
I know in my little province, the dirt and mud colour can vary from county to county. But the Modelmakerz colours look like to much primary colours were used and not enough earth tones or sumpin.

i would say it is hard to judge, the dark brown you have would do as a mud color, just add some AK wet effects over it once applied,

It's kinda hard to see in the photo, but once on something it has quite a red colour to it. I'd have to add something to it. Maybe like Chris said mixing some of the Desert color or some brown/black pastel I have here.

I don't have any AK products. I think Future would work for wet mud.

Howdy Noname,

You are absolutely right: the colors can vary extremely... not only between countries, just when travelling a few kms/miles.

For example, where I live (East coast - Spain), the color of the earth is the same as... the one that I saw in Ayers Rock-Australia ! red-orange earth!

I think that you would hit the pot if you move between the red-brown & the dark-brown (almost black) colors... taking in counter that Northern Europe is a wet area (frequently rains, and snows in winter...) well, I think that a wet soil is usually darker than the dry & arid ones... also because there is more organic matter in it...
Just my opinion, Noname... ;)

Thanks Jelly. Good to hear your opinion as you are in the general neighbourhood so to speak. I was thinking more of a darker brown. I think most dust is a lighter biege sort of colour and of course dirt is darker when wet. ;)
