Chipping Fluid

Has anyone used this stuff before? I have never used the hairspray technique or anything and I got this stuff but the instructions say to put two or three coats on let it dry and then immediately put on the top coat. Why immediately? I feel like I'm in a damn Rush that if I don't get the pain out immediately after it dries it's not going to work. Yes I know I could try it and see what happens on a paint mule but I figured I would just ask and see if anyone has any input. Because I basically wanted to spray the whole model with this fluid or at least the areas that I want to chip and then I was going to paint the outside but it's three colors and I didn't want to rush cuz it says immediately

I've never used that but I'm assuming that they are concerned that a wet paint layer applied to that stuff after it is fully dry may rewet it enough to cause it to debond , before you want it to .
It's an acrylic resin similar to what is used on decals -- when it gets wet it absorbs water and expands the resin and breaks its adhesion .
You should be fine as long as you use thin coats atop it .

All right. I'm just wondering why they said immediately start painting after it dries. I mean I was going to spray this stuff on let it dry and it might take me two days to paint the damn plane with three colors actually four that I think about it and then start chipping after all that is dry. And then I'm probably reading too much into it and I should just do it and if I mess it up oh well. Live and learn.thx.

I have that same product. I've only used it once so far, and I was also concerned about " immediately " applying the top coat.
I applied two coats of the chipping fluid and let it dry. It was a couple hours later when I sprayed the top coat. I chipped it the following day. It worked out well, I was very happy with the results.

Okay just a follow up. Decided to just try that chipping fluid on the cowl. I could have swore you weren't supposed to thin it but that turned out to be something else I was thinking of because it would not spray out of the airbrush. So I took a chance and used Mr color leveling thinner to thin it and that worked out excellent so I gave the nose two coats and let it dry probably took 10 minutes. Remember I'm in Phoenix. So I went to clean my airbrush with lacquer thinner as usual and holy moly that stuff turned to a stringy glue. Lesson learned. So then I sprayed it with flat black xf1 and here's a couple pictures I started chipping and it's working out great and I'm probably way overdoing it

Looking good, I found it was so much fun it was easy to overdo. I had to add paint back on, and to make some of the chips smaller, or a different shape.

So you just kinda scrape off the black (in this case)?

Yep. It's really easy and when it looks good I'll just put a coat of clear on it and that way I can manhandle it while I get the rest of the plane done

So a clear coat will set it permanently? I've never used this stuff either. Tamiya makes a chipping medium. I've only just tried using Mr. Masking Sol Neo to try to make paint chips.

Yes, a clear coat will set it... Just need to remove the water to stop the process and then clear coat.
