Decided to have a go at 1/16 figure and found it's not easier with the bigger scale than my usual 1/35.

Nowhere to hide with these little devil's.

Anyway, got some tidying up to do, sort his buttons and clips then weather him up a little

So just to add to my workload I decided to buy a resin figure, 1/35 to start with. Pleased with the progress so far but a long way to go yet I think. Pantherman

Think I'm done with this one, just a matte finish to seal him in. Pantherman

Ruck On, Pantherman! I've always preferred the larger scales, they show mistakes real quick and teach you fast. They are a lot of fun, IMHO, enjoy.

So I have finally finished my german trouper, not too bad but I think I will have to practice my shading and facial features more. Pantherman

So a little more progress until the new paints arrive. Going for a different camo this time that I haven't tried before so fingers crossed. Pantherman

A very good friend decided to give me most of his German 1/35 figures as he said that he just can't get into painting them. I now have around 40nr to practice on as well as all the kit and weapons. Going to be one busy but very happy Pantherman.

He looks good to me. I would not even attempt to do a figure. I wouldn't know if I had bad shading on a face or not. Don't sell yourself short. You are a very talented artist in my opinion. I find we are our own worst critics.

Well thank you very much for your kind comments. I do enjoy working on the figures, very therapeutic and relaxing . Pantherman

I think you did a great job.

As for the shading on facial features, with acrylics I find it works best doing a flesh color overall, then do a wash that is a mix of a reddish brown ink and an olive color paint (less olive if you want a paler complexion), then go back with the original base color and pick out the highlights, doing a few highlight layers on progressively smaller areas adding a bit more white/lighter flesh color to each

Then I often go back again with an even more thinned wash sometimes to tone things down and get rid of the contrast. Kind of an iterative process

I also use glazing medium to thin the wash or highlights and make it more transparent. Water surface tension is not ideal, but adding something like a drop of dish soap, or the glazing medium will help it lay down better and less prone to the rings as it dries. Also the glazing medium will extend working time a bit allowing you to blend better

You can also do stubble facial hair effects by using some glaze medium with a dark black/brown or black/blue color thinned almost to wash consistency

Thanks for the tips, something I will have to try. Pantherman
