Anyone build The Black Pearl or other pirate ship, how was it, and what material was it?

I would like to find an affordable plastic one.

Watch out if you build the Lindberg Jolly Roger, horribly misaligned molds. It was awesome for building putty and sanding techniques, skills will come in handy when you build a Revell kit.

not sure about affordable but Revell has a 1/72 Pirate ship that was originally released as The Black Pearl by Zvezda
However due to some licensing fiasco, they lost the ability to market as Pirates of the Caribbean.
It was rebranded as "the Black Swan" and re-released by Revell with the only change being the one sprue with the mast figure head. It was replaced with a swan figurehead instead since that made it a generic "pirate ship"
1/72 is on the larger side, but not too bad and retail IIRC was around $90 dollars
these days you will be lucky to find the black pearl one less than $200 since they have gone into "collector" status with 3rd party sellers
the Revell one can still be found for close to MSRP

I picked up the Zvezda one for something like $134 which included shipping (it is huge box and shipping alone would easily be 40 or more)
I also have the Revell version which was cheaper

They are both plastic, even the sails. There is thread though for the lines

on the cheaper and smaller end they also made a 1/350 version
this is on Amazon currently for $23.99

also do not know anything about it but Revell also has a 1/150 version

BUILD IT, BUILD IT, BUILD IT, BUILD IT, BUILD IT, BUILD IT, BUILD IT.......
I must admit that I had forgotten about it because it wasn't something I was interested in but looking at it now I kinda want to build it. Not even sure if all the parts are there. I think I will have a go after the air ambulance. Pantherman

I would look forward to seeing it, if something is missing, bass wood carves and shapes well.

Thanks for the great info and replies. I did see a black pearl last week that was some kind of system like leggo but different. Not what i want at all, also saw some wooden models but never worked with wood before so dont know if i even have the right supplies for that. I think ill stick with plastic for now, getting supplies for that and initial hobby startup cost has been a bundle so far.
