Starting off with the base from XPS foam base and building it up for the resin.

Thanks, I've never had a problem with heat from the resin, maybe some resins heat up more. The only problems I had was moving the hot torch to take out the bubbles quick enough not to burn any thing else.Again maybe more modern resins have overcome that problem Edbert.That's cool!
I messed with resin back in '78-80 time frame, never since. Is there a concern with the heat, in that it might warp/melt the plastic model?
I poured mine into a plaster pond, with balsa "dock", so melting plastic was not an issue.
