wikkid_devil said:Watching this with interest. I haven't built a kit plane for .. ehem 20 years. Currently building an Airfix 1:72 Lanc (awful kit!) as a refresher before embarking on my Grandmother's Christmas present.
I have a 1:48 Hercules sitting in the wings (no pun intended) which I am going to build. The reason being, my late grandfather was an RAF Squadron Leader (navigator not pilot) serving on Hercules when he retired.
Apparently he was part of the team that flew the first extended body model from the states to the UK for evaluation.
My Grandmother has always wanted a good representation of the type.
Unfortunately I could not find a larger scale version of an extended body Hercules, so she is getting a modern C-130J.
I need to do more research on my Grandfathers history. Apparently he cut his teeth at the end of WWII on bombing mission over Japan on Liberators with the USAF (on secondment from the RAF as combat operations in Europe had finished).
He then went on to Avro Yorks during the Berlin Airlift.
Apart from some time training special forces in jungle survival in Borneo and some super secret stuff with NATO helping develop Surface to Air missile defences I know very little of what he got up to...
I have a thread running about the 48th scale c-130h that I've got...
