Academy 1/48 CH-53E Super Stallion

Alright,
So I can't believe how much detail is packed into this little kit. I've seen other modelers put some stuff into it but I'm really diggin' it OOB, couple that with the Big Ed set. I'm happy to say the least.

Here is the top of the rotor w/ eduard pe.

After assembly (I've put as much of it together that I can still take the top and the shaft off, make it easier for paint.

Details are amazing, or at least I think so. :p

this should be a fun ride!

Don't take it personally but, I hate you! LoL

Now I might have to get one! LOL

I should try to convince myself that I don't have the room!

Take care and enjoy the quality of this kit!

How long did it take to get to you from Korea?

Dont hate the player, hate the game! Haha. Thank you again for helping me find it. It took less than 2 weeks to get here, the big ed set took longer. I am now bias, but you should def get one. The kit gives you the option of disllaying it with the blades folded. Your wife wont mind too much. :)

Seriously, Academey did a really great job putting this thing together. All of those parts went together very easly, very very little mold lines, and where there were spru attachment points, they were hidden when glued to the next piece. Norm and Scott, you guys should def get one. We could have our own little CH group build haha.

I went the unconventional route and am building it with the rotors in flight position. Almost every build I've seen displays them folded and I want to show off the pure presence of this bad boy!!!

Alright, so I didn't get much bench time tonight but I was able to get the rear access ramp complete.

This is the bottom of the ramp, after sanding down the spru attachment points I had to lightly rescribe the panel line.

Then I had to take of the molded in ramp guide things.

Both done: (No need to be clean)

why did you not just put this in the bsc ??? this will be sweet and norm is right get some mr disolved putty and put it in there it only looks bad because of where it is :)

Hey Spud, I thought about putting this in the BSC but I really didn't want the pressure. I really just wanted to take my time and have fun with this one. There is a TON of pe that is going into this and I really want to try and give it the best paintjob I've done yet. I was just worried that if I put a deadline on it I may "rush" too much to get it done.

All the PE on my BSC build didn't stop me from the challenge! ;)

Great subject, and great build so far! Those landing ramp decks look great the way they are without the paint, imho.

Alright folks, (Other than getting stopped by the Fuzz and getting a traffic fine) I had a pretty good day. I spent my bench time working on the tail section. I'm pretty happy with the results!

As you can see the screen section was molded in, rather nicely I might add, but not as nice as PE! :)

I went about removing all the areas:

Then I decided that it would probably be easier to glue everything up first and sand etc then put the PE on. Good thing cuz there was a fair amount of sanding etc. I used the CA and baking soda technique cuz I can move along on the seams faster. This part I didn't take pictures of because I forgot. Sorry

After that I went on to attaching the PE:

I then realized that you will be able to see through the screen into the interior and I didn't want it to be styrene gray so I painted it black, I did the top of the tail at this point too before attaching PE up there.

Just to check the seam:

I also painted the PE already installed just to see how it looks:

PE on the rotor head area:

Everything glued up and painted to check work:

Oh man,

I had put a post in here a little while ago and now it isn't showing up. Odd... Anyways,
here is the state of the tail...

Since these pics were taking I have put a coat of primer on it. I will get around to taking some pics of that at some point.

Thanks for following!

Some tidy PE work there Adam ,looks good .Smart idea painting the inside black ;)

Chris.

Thank you very much Chris! I really need to get another pic of it up, it looks really nice all primed up. (I forgot to mention that I had to use CA to fill the gap there on the top of the stabalizer. The real thing doesn't have a gap there so I had to get ride of it.)

Nice job on the PE Adampolo. Really adds a lot to the tail section.

Thanks Jmac!!!

Here are some pics of it sitting all primered up. Going to stay this way for a bit. :)
