Yes. it made the string much easier to work with. I tried a brown and grey wash but got the first batch too dark (see top). So got some old-fashioned dirt and gave them a lite rub.View attachment 131189

Looks dang near perfect on those straps Cal. Sometimes, good 'ol fashioned dirt works out great. I also have been known to use ground up brown pastels too.
