AMT 1/32 Scale ( Ex Pro Shop) X-Wing

I've had the AMT Pro Shop Electronic X-Wing stored away for the best part of 10 years , since I abandoned the build as I wasn't impressed with the electronic features ( I thought they compromised the kit and were a little "toy-like" for my tastes ). I dug it out recently , as my building of the Moebius Mark 1 Viper has put me in the mood for "old-school" Starfighters ! It also struck me that the "Pro-Shop" scaled up at more or less 1/32nd scale and would therefore make a good companion piece to the Viper . My intent is to make the X-Wing a "quick build" with minimal "tweaking" , just a few added panels and maybe some brass on the laser cannons . Here's how it looks so far . ( And I've even re-discovered my 30-odd year old MPC X-Wing for comparison ! )

Cheers Jake . I've not 100% decided on the X-Wings designation yet , but it's likely I'm going with "Red Leader" , as it has the complete red fuselage stripe . The wing markings are a w.i.p , as they'll need re-doing due to being a bit "off" ( I did them quickly and the single stripe is too short and thick !) so it was a bit of an accident that the ship resembles Red Leader . I'd intended the model to be a generic X-Wing , because I didn't want to be TOO tied to "screen accuracy" , but I'll see where the build takes me .

I was always of the opinion that the kit wasn't that highly regarded , but apart from a few small innacuracies , it's a good solid kit . I think it was pretty expensive on it's release ( especially here in the U.K ) , which may have something to do with it .

Little bit more work done on the X-Wing after a short break . Got the fuselage halves together and the wings in place . Decided on fixing the wings in the "open" position as I wasn't terrible happy with the moveable option . Unfortunately , in my haste to get the components all together , I forgot to add the sheet styrene "bulkheads" I'd prepared to hide the gaps left from removing the moving parts . ( The lesson being , try not to do any modelling whilst partaking in a cheeky Rose !) Not TOO big a problem , as I'll simply add some "baffles" to hide the gaps . I've added some missing detail with some sheet styrene on the engines , so now it's just a matter of getting rid of the seams , sorting out the red markings on the wings and starting to build up the weathering . I'll be doing this with the usual pastel chalks and I've also invested in a Tamiya Weathering set .








The base is a place holder 'till I figure out what I'm doing in that department .

Great job! Nice choice on doing Red Leader too, I don't see that often.
