All right,
As a companion piece to the "Angel Flight" build up of Starbuck's Viper Mk2, I'm refinishing my Timeslip Creations Viper Mk7E model to depict Apollo's ship from the same scene in "Crossroads"

"Angel Flight"

I've borrowed some pics from the Battlestar Wiki to show the differences between the two versions, and show why I'm not using the Moebius 1/32 Mk7 kit for Apollo's bird.
These pics definitely show clear differences, and the pic of Apollo and Starbuck together clearly shows the "uprated" version."

This is how the model looked before I got started:
I'd originally finished it in my own colors for the "Solaria".

As she looks after the first soaking in Simple Green, and preliminary scrubbing of the old paint.
At this point, the bottom has almost none of the Solaria colors showing.

This looks like a very interesting process.

So this is the Nu-Nu Viper as opposed to the Nu Viper which replaced the old Viper which is what Starbuck's flying.

Ok, think I've got it. ;D

Very interesting stuff Q! Would it not be possible to just give her a sand and reprime? Maybe that would destroy detail?? Educate me a little.....hehehe. Look forward to seeing this progress!

Sanding, sadly, removes details along with old paint, fumblethumbs. You're right about that.
And I freely admit to not having what it would take to rescribe all of those panel lines.
So, I go for the stripping and repainting.

Progress continues on the refinishing of the Mk7.

Stripping more, or less, completed

Primer coat goes on.

Base color coat. I used Krylon's "Global Blue" for the base here.
It looks a little light to me, so I'll likely be adding a wash to darken it up and then weather it further from there

Thanks.
She's a nice, very solid, chuck of resin, noc5659.
She easily weighs a couple of pounds.

Q I am having difficulty attaching any of my photos to posts it says the image size is to large. How do you do you attach your images?

i had a huge problem with that at first too. each file must be within 400K and the entire pot with files cannot exceed 1MB.

Nice work Q!

I don't attach my images, I use a third party host like Picassa, photobucket just to name a few.

Great kit, great dio is coming along and a great progress so far, Q. Thumbs up - only wish I had three of them on my hands for all the three greats ;D

Yeah, it looks great Q! You've got her back to factory fresh again. Couple questions for ya: Does the Simple Green work on acrylic or enamel, or both? Also, what is your primer of choice? Keep up the great work!

Actually, noc5659, I'm NOT attaching the pics to the threat.
I'm using the [ img ] tag to point them to my Photobucket account.

Thanks for the compliments, guys.
More update coming soon, I promise

@fumblethumbs,
Given that the red was sprayed on, I'm thinking it works on enamels, as well.
There were a couple of areas where I actually had bare resin showing before I primered it

Okay,
Original weathering/darkening plan didn't go the way I wanted, or hoped.
The black wash I used has gotten WAY too thick and needs to be diluted again.
The result was, well, a mess.

Luckily, with some patience, an old toothbrush, a small scrub brush, and some Simple Green, I was able to get down to mostly blue again.
The "bare" areas showing here were the results of my attempts to work the black off with a paper towel and paint thinner.
I think I'll keep them for effect, though.

Got the markings down on her.
I've used some of the stock markings from the Moebius kit, as well as custom name plates to show his rank as "Major"
