Beach Scratch

Sounds funny but I've started the engine! Here's seven of the twelve components! I hope to do some painting tomorrow before attaching the other parts.

When finished I can modify the chassis, copying the original one from the kit.

I apologize. My favorite form of humor is sarcasm.

EDIT: meaning I have zero skill in scratch building, those of you who do...amaze me

just some bodywork
Watching your scratch build of a 'buggy' makes me feel a satisfaction and excitement that perhaps may never be felt by coming generations: building that perfect soap box racer with odds and ends from dad's garage or the back garden shed.

Thoroughly enjoying your build Pat!

Cheers, Brian

Yes Brian, just what we did in the late fifties and early sixties. Rummage through numerous sheds and garages. There were about eight of us, so there were seven sheds (My father and brother were engineers, so I wasn't allowed in what was a 6X8 ft garden shed at what they were up to!) But yes we came up with some weird and wonderfull carts, some with steering, but none with brakes other than the soles of your school shoes/plimsoles, or sandals! And if your shoes were damaged at all it was a smack of the ear and detention and no pocket money for weeks on end!
What the current generations are really missing in the rough and tumble (to often) of 65 years ago!

eight of us
Ha! Same in my neighborhood, just step out the door, and there were enough pals to start up just about any kinda game, no need for anyone to organise us or supervise (I still maintain that was a good thing)... we just needed to keep an ear open for "supper time!"

Unfortunately, there were no real hills nearby, so that meant pushing on foot, or pulling with bikes.

Half the fun was anticipating the inevitable epic crash, then recounting it for the rest of the summer!

Thanks for the stories, and the memories!
