Bench lighting suggestion ?

Different for sure... But, I believe I'll stick with my architect lamps [be them totally, totally archaic & old - like me] and quartz-halogen bulbs for my lighting. I tried 3-4 different 'hi-tech' LED systems and returned all of them... I wasn't a big fan of the light output nor the 'color' they produced for my work area. 'Yes', call my old-school...

plus , you can cook hotdogs atop the halogen bulbs !

I've switched over to LED with the exception of the last rectilinear drafting lamp ( florescent ) over the spray-table .
I like the light with those 5000K bulbs but that ballast buzzing at the base sometimes annoys me . It'll be a long while before or if I replace it .

Hotdogs AND popcorn - The 'Boss' does get a might bit upset with me, for when she catches me snack'n in my work-room... Boy, oh boy, ESPECIALLY the popcorn...

I have an old desk lamp on the bench, but the shop room also has a lamp just above the door. I have used the desk lamp exactly once since I moved into this new apartment, and I think something may be wrong with it from the move as it heated up badly. I used it for years and it never did that before.

Gonna look into a new one, maybe one that is smaller and sits right on the bench rather than clamping to it.

It's great, I also have a floor lamp and a lamp attached to my work bench for all around lighting but for figure painting and small work this little lamp is great. For some reason (must be aging eyes) I still keep my readers on when using it. The small tray on the bottom comes in handy for small parts too. Just be careful moving it if you do that. Mine has been on the desk for over three years and still working great.

Heh. Know what you mean, both of you.
In my case though, it wasn't till I started using magnifying safety glasses that my eyes have started going. Used to have frikkin calibrated eyeballs, and even scratchbuilt a totally accurate and in scale shutllecraft for my old 1/537 refit Enterprise I had in college. Now... lucky I was able to pose and place those PE TOS crew for the 1/350 build.

Yeah, that's similar to one I bought, to carry in my travel kit:

It provides good lighting where I need it, and it packs up into a nice little flat package, so it fits easily in the tool box. And it was only around $28

I use a couple of Ikea lamps with their Daylight balanced LED lamps. And these made a vast difference to my daylight balanced fluorescent lamp. I posted about it here (images included for those interested), including links to the items at Ikea. And they were cheap, but very sturdy.
