Delta Quadrant's 1/1000 USS Bonaventure PREVIEW!

Got this sucker primed!!! I had to fill all the windows with clear resin and use the gravity assist to get it flush. There are still some areas that need to be sanded smooth so I’ll have to remask before the preshading + base coating process begins. But hey! She’s really coming along!!!! Hopefully I’ll have good finish pics by early next week!!!

Did I mention I hate Tamiya thinner??? I pre-shaded the other night then last night hit it with a base coat of flat white-drop of camo gray-thinner and it cracked where I preshaded. FUCK! So I spent a good amount of time going over the cracked spots with a super-fine sander so I'll put the base coat on *again* in the next 24-36 hours. Color wise, I'm thinking of flat white with barely a drop of light gray, just to off-white it a touch...perhaps the slightly dark undercoat will be beneficial. We'll see.

Been hard at work this week painting! I did pre-shading with Tamiya flat black…but perhaps I should have used some flat base mixed in because when I applied the thinned down base-coat mix of white-camo gray it cracked!!! Seriously this kit has been cursed from the get-go. I’m trying my damnest to be good and take it slow, etc.

Anyway, I sanded down the problem spots and then opted for a flat white base on the whole thing. It’ll be fine because I know the 2500 decals took nicely to a flat white coat (actually I used a pearlescent…). I did all the detail painting utilizing Micro Mask and am pretty happy with it. The deflector dish is Testors brass.

Finished all the decals!! I used all the kit supplied decals but had to supplement with bits from PNT’s TOS set (nav light areas + saucer cargo doors), leftovers from Timeslips Phobos (sensor bands) and also had to use extra material to fill in some missed areas. The only real issue with the kit decals is that the nacelle paneling is too narrow by about 1/3. You should be able to center it and get good coverage. Either that or cut the areas up into smaller pieces to better space the paneling. Me? I like a lot of layered paneling.

As of this moment (as a write this) the final top clear coat is drying!! So guess what??? TOMORROW is photo day!!!

Oh, and thanks Eric for the tips on trimming. It wasn't as bad as on the 2500 by any means but there was still just a little bit...

Looking sharp. I'd have likely gone with the Constellation, myself, but looking nice

Terrific job Nick! Great lighting on her. Looks like it was a really nice kit to put together.

The last couple pix look all bright and Christmas-y... :)

My compliments to the Chef!!!
