I use alkyd as the base coat so the alcohol has no effect on it .
You can use the technique with all acrylic but you just need to be way more careful with the alcohol or risk removing the base coat as well .

I need to get back to it -- - I'm picking at a Takom KT with full interior at the moment .
I should start a thread for it I guess .
I do a something like that using a soft-ish scotch-bright pad.
First the steel color underneath, then color?, then light rubbing
with the scrub pad till I get desired effect!!
I use the same technique on my Maschinen Krieger builds. I prime with Army Painter matte black enamel, and then use water-based or Tamiya acrylics for the color coats. Then I can scuff the acrylics off for wear and tear with the green scouring pads.
