Hi Guys

Whilst I'm waiting for the oils to dry on my Simca I have another project (yes another project!) to be getting on with. I fancied a change and also wanted to practice my figure painting so I managed to pick up this unusual 1/12? figure, which I think is from Fine Molds, but its hard to be sure as all the instructions and packaging are in Japanese.

and heres whats inside

The parts needed a bit of undercutting with a scalpel to define things, and I also had to trim some of the excess from the inside of the parts to get them to fit, especially on the torso.
Heres an example of what parts were like to begin with

and the constructed figure

and after plenty of mixing and painting, all with acrylics, over a couple of days here's the results

The decals on the helmet are from the spares box and took some getting in place, I needed isopropyl alcohol to get them to conform to the curves, but they looked fine once glossed on. Also the base was made from a shell of balsa which I stuck together and filled with plaster to give it some weight.

Thanks for looking

Thanks Rookie, he reminds me a bit of Ted Danson!

Got this build finished up today, I had a bit of a brainwave on the base and decided to go for a wooden crate. To do this I scored plank lines and grain lines into the balsa base, made up the edges from more balsa then coated it with white glue to harden it. Once dry I gave the planks some thinned brown washes and then stenciled in the writing.

The top was just some dirt and white glue, a few stones and some Mininatur grass tufts.

The figure was more of the previous, just plenty of mixed acrylic paints and plenty of patience. I did use a satin varnish for the helmet and a matt for the figure to add more interest.

Any hope you like, heres the pictures

I've really enjoyed this build, something completely different for me but I learned a lot and will be looking out for more of these kits, especially as it only cost £4!

Thanks for looking

Wonderful job on this Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball, Dr Slump, Dragon Quest) original figure... :D

Excellent work Leighbo! Ted Danson and Jay Leno had a baby. ;D

Jay Leno joins the army! ;D :D
Yeah, nice work on this rather odd kit but something out of the ordinary isn't a bad thing at all. It looks like a fun model to do, I wonder if I can find one somewhere for my own amusement!

And a quick check of the link takes me to Hobby Link Japan where I see more in the collect and at affordable prices aaand...they're on backorder til the 5th of November 2367! :-\ :'(
