Guess what scale model will rise from this plastic parts

Done a lot of work on it lately.

The engine part has been detailed with a motocross motor I think. Just the right size and shape.

For the weapons array, like a firing missile, I dig big holes in the pods, glued on some plastic straws, let it dry, put some putty, let it dry, and cut the remain part to obtain the missile launcher look.

Last week, so, I used AVES instead of Polyester putty... No odor, easy to mix, use with water... I thought it would not dry and stay on the surface but I was wrong. Cool stuff ! Highly recommanded (as Grendel I think). But I still haven't done it properly. Will use liquid putty and everything I can think of to hav the right surface before carving...

I thought you used AVES for your Babylon 5 starship... Must have misunderstood.

I did, but I haven't touched it in a month. It is about time to get back to it and finish her off. You didn't miss understand.

Ah, OK :D

Would have greatly used it for filling the holes on my R2-D2, but didn't have AVES back then.

Will try to find my AVES Epoxy I bought years ago at Starship modeler. Now that I know how good, non toxic it is, that will be a real pleasure to do some important work, on my Independence Day Alien Exoskeleton for instance :D

I sanded sanded and sanded again but it's endless... You see here the coffee spoons glued for some details on the engine section.

Bad luck. The plastic is fragile and it broke when I tried to cut correctly the edges of the cockpit. Added some putty to blend the different parts of the pods.

So i broke all the way and will cut with a dremel the edges and add some plastic profile (T or L) to do the trick. Have to do the pilots though... Some old soldier toys will be modified. In the mean time I took the shape of the spoon used for the cockpit to cut the right part in plasticard, that will be used to help to bend the plastic profile, and eventually do the roof of the cockpit later.

Added some detail on the top on the engine section. Don't know exactly what it is, found it one day... Happy the result. Then, added some metallic grill, a detail that will show up I hope.

I'm fed up adding mastic but can't help it since i Regulary find holes or bumps on the hull... Sanding sanding sanding...

I gave some try with orange painting, it looks great. I began doing some engraving... It's not great (hate to do that) but it's definitely a + !

Lots of sanding going here and lots is yet to come, but
this would pay off in the end 100% !!
Have this twin-pod only taken a shape it already looks outstanding
I can even imagine what a candy it will be in the end!
Keep it up, buddy, You're doing great job! ;)

Definately getting there with the sanding. Some great work and determination, YOULI.

Keep at it my friend! :)

Never took the time to post those pictures, didn't have the time lately, even if I've got a new APN... :D But this next step is 3 weeks old I thinK.
Scribbing is done, badly, but done... The scrib-lines are visible because of the Gundam markers used to see it...

I cut some old plastic soldiers, they will be modified with green stuff, for the helmet, and with some transparents googles too, later... I think the result might be fine, I just have to decide, and work on the cockpit. Will maybe use some "L" plastic profile, or my beloved plastic spoons... Really have to make up my mind and move on... :D

As you can see, there is nothing left of their legs, they will be glued on directly in, like the good old fashioned model kits. The edges are fragile, really have to reinforce that part and MAKE the cockpit. Must be done shortly.

Stay tune... :D

Moving along with it! Those soldiers are probably more detailed than most figures that come with model kits...

Well, can't argue with that since it's obviously some cheap recast of old Airfix Soldiers, maybe Italeri, really don't know.

Chose them for they have "nice" heads, and the proper pause that will be useful here.

But they sure are better than the pilots in the Snowspeeder or event the good old X-wing :D

Nice progress, mate!
Hard to believe that a model so close to the look of the original rose from what was once some scratch

Excellent progress Youli. I agree with Sol, that is really hard to think. Such a tricky model to scratch, but you're doing it!

Thanks guys !

It simply a matter of... Hearing. SOme parts spoke to me "build me ! Glue me !". THe only way to make them shut up is to do as they say :D :D :D

Youli - slave of model and scratch parts

I just looked through the thread I was wondering,
it seemed like the main hulls had a smooth plastic
surface. What happened that you needed all the filler
on them and sanding?

Some parts were not simply glued on. To have the right shape there was huge gaps between the cockpit and the hull for example. Plus, even this kind of plastic neef to be sanded in order to have a good adherence for the paint.
But, mainly, it was a matter of obtain the right shape for the base of the cockpit :D
It's hard to see since the parts are transparent. :)
