This is mostly an out-of-box build. Add ons include: Dreammodel pitot, Dreammodel exhaust nozzles, Dreammodel exterior PE, Eduard Zoom cockpit, Eduard canopy masks, Begemot Flanker family stencil decals, Round 2 dome base and a Quickboost corrected nose (which is slightly too large to match flush with the fuselage). I opted not to do any rivet lines on this build…so we’ll see how it looks in the end.

By and large the fit is pretty solid and tight. There were a couple of issues with the intake assemblies but those were managed with a little shaving.

I had a couple little hang ups with the cockpit assembly and the Eduard parts…I misread where to trim so it’s a little sloppy.

This was also my first attempt at the photo etch exhaust nozzles. They’re a little sloppy, too…next time they’ll be better. OR I’ll use resin replacements!!

The gear doors needed a little trimming to fit into the closed position, too.

The air brake door and the front gear door fit PERFECTLY without trimming although I had to add in some material to fill the gaps.

The external PE is awesome, too...

looking pretty pretty cool !! ill be waiting for your next update!!
keep up the great work ! :D

A lot of etch going on in there.
No worries about the nozzles, Doing those in etch is ambitious.

Finished off all the little PE bits and pieces. The tiniest bits like the tri-antennae and fishhook on the vertical stabilizer were the last to be added.

Got a lot of painting done on this sea bird! I tried to do a little blue undertone with the engines but the Testors Metallizer was so thick it didn’t show. Oh well!

The belly is Tamiya light blue and the other tones are a mix of intermediate blue+light gray and intermediate blue straight out of the bottle. It sure was a heck of masking job! Next up is the white tips and nose and all the little trim paints before the finishing steps.

Not sure if I should Future and decal THEN flat coat to do the washes and weathering or do all the washes first. My thought is that I want the decals to get some of the wash and also that the flat coat will even out the variances in the paint sheen so the wash is more even….thoughts?

I's put the decals on first so that everything's consistent.
She's looking sharp

Nice work Nick! You always satisfy the masses. And by the way, Bless your eyes because that etch is tiny, you just knock it out.

thanks guys! i kept losing that damn fishhook though! i was soooo careful not to bump it then before i knew it...it was gone! went through three of the them!!

Amazing work and a beautiful aircraft! Those nozzles are just wicked man! Brilliant job.

thanks guys! any of you members over @ ARC? there's a ruskie over there who basically bashes every flanker build...and it seems it's his only purpose on the boards...jeez. some people!
