hawkenstien 3......

well over the last week or so i have been playing with the tail wheel assembly. i decided i wanted something that was more in line with what i had been shown.

this is what the kit parts look like. now mind you it does not look bad at all.

now begging the indulgence of he who allowed me a glimpse into his vast reference library.
for discussion purposes only.

this is what the tail wheel assembly is supposed to look like.

this is what i came up with on the redo.

and the two side by side.

Man this is one ambitious build. Looking forward to your next update.

many thanks.

how about a quickie of an update.

yesterday i got on a roll. i had been playing with the lines and how i wanted to run them, well like i said i got on a run.

to my eye it is much much better than what it was before. next up is to redo the radios.

well how about a quickie update.

i think i have worked this through enough that i can be satisfied.

first up here are the two radio sets.

radio-2_zps590c0ded.jpg

and the internals all mocked up.

internals-4_zpsee7592ca.jpg

internals-3_zps1d42c7b3.jpg

internals-2_zpsfecbfa24.jpg

this looks much better to my eyes. enough detail to attract attention and not too much to have the cluttered look.

well just another quickie update.

the more i looked at the pit area the more it just didnt fit my idea of what i needed to have so yesterday i spent some time with pictures, strip, and channel pieces.

this took me a couple of hours of intense study of a couple of pictures and several miscuts.

the result.....

pitfalls-3_zps0503f936.jpg

pitfalls-2_zps5ad36585.jpg

and ........

pitfalls-1_zps9504e5bf.jpg

tbh this isnt 100% accurate but it is something that i, after sitting and staring at the work i did and then the pictures, then the work, then the pictures..........for about two hours, can live with. i have just a couple of small stringers to add near the forward bulkhead.

so now i believe i can, with a smile, move forward to the pit.

ohh and i figure i will paint when i get towards the nose more so that i can get it all in one session.

comments, critiques, and criticism are very much encouraged.

pit-floor-and-starboard-side-2_zps98504d19.jpg

now i also redid the control stick. mind you the stick from the kit is not bad. in fact it is decent. i just......well.......i cant help myself.

control-stick-2_zps4b2274ea.jpg

and side by side with the kit piece.

control-stick-1_zps4257bbe9.jpg

now for the port side. hopefully in the next few days.

ok an update.

been playing a bit with this. just cant leave well enough alone.

worked on some of the thingymabobs and whachamajiggers that comprise the gadget type things in the pit. then i jumped ahead of myself and sprayed some paint.

i know better but i still did it.

so lets catch up shall we. first the fuel tank.

painted and some wear and tear.

too much for one post i guess. 2nd part inbound soon.

paintedinterior2_zpsb7adce89.jpg

painted-interior-1_zpsbca2aad4.jpg

and then some more gadgets and painting in the pit. added just a bit of wear and tear for the flooring and such as well.

dont look like much but it took a while. still a ways to go on this but progress is progress.

till next time.

well after a couple of productive days in the bunker i have some progress to report.

first up, redo on the painted fuel tank. made it less worn out.

painted-interior-15_zps2002e69c.jpg

notice i have also put in a couple of lines. not sure if they will be seen but i figure i better do them anyway.

next up was some of the little things that can get knocked off. cowl flap handle and assembly and the handle on the starboard floor.

painted-interior-14_zps9ca05a54.jpg

painted-interior-13_zps00e703ef.jpg

painted-interior-12_zps934b5784.jpg

painted-interior-11_zps312163f1.jpg

now you will notice i have now started the seat frame. i have also constructed the seat. not much fun. lots of four letter words and such. that is for the next update though.

thats it for now.

all comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged.

well its the little things that make life go round.

for models its the little things that we grind on for hours at a time.

for me it just means i am doing the little things to try to button up the cockpit.

first up is the throttle assembly.

i came in under my estimate for pieces for this. only 12. i was thinking 18 or so.

Throttle-2_zps26145163.jpg

yes that little thing is on a popsicle stick. and then a close up.

Throttle-1_zps4f9964a6.jpg

also worked on the seat and the frame. now this is a bugger and a half. took me the better part of four hours to try to fashion it.

the detail on the sides are for the seat belts. the detail on the back is noticed in the pictures but cant tell you what it is. a tether of some kind goes through the loop and is attached to the lower part of the frame.

seat-4_zps0c64ac78.jpg

seat-3_zps0faaed64.jpg

seat-2_zps5487f707.jpg

seat-1_zps110f348e.jpg

now with these two things done what do i have left?

large item(s):

-instrument panel
-foot pedals
-attach seat/frame

small item(s):
-rods for throttle controls
-assorted wires and tubes for radio and boxes.
-attach radio

not sure if i have missed anything. need to take some time to study the pictures and decide.

all comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged.

well it isnt much but it was time consuming.

trying to get the pit done. want to get it finished so i can try something different than anything i have done on the engine. to that extent first up was a small assembly on the starboard side.

painted-interior-16_zps45c7663a.jpg

with that done and the throttle rods attached all that is needed is the ip work. so i wanted to see what it looked like in place.

painted-interior-19_zpsf3d80f52.jpg

painted-interior-17_zps6c0bc471.jpg

painted-interior-18_zps524786fc.jpg

now up to this point all of seven kit pieces have been used. with that being said from this point on in the interior will be mainly kit pieces. there will be details thrown in here and there but for the most it will be kit pieces.

now for the ip. there are four kit pieces. they lack somewhat in the detail so i enhanced it a bit.

ip-1_zpsb01518a7.jpg

ip-2_zpsdfb98c96.jpg

ip-3_zps3d4dc94b.jpg

i got this together and thought wow i can move on......not so fast....... all the wiring for the ip will be seen. ok. next session will be to fashion the back of the panel and add some wiring.

many thanks to all who have followed along to this point. i hope i havent bored you too much.

well folks here i am, the pit is finished as far as i can tell. i have a few things that will need to wait but the pit is complete.

and with that i can begin the engine. forgive the lack of actual construction photos. i am painting as i move through this at the moment.
