Faced with this theme and the horror it is intended to invoke, my brain goes all analytical:

... again, the staging and colour palette are very effective. The equal treatment of terrain, vehicle and figures puts them all on the same level, and to your point, de-humanizes the people, they are literally blended into the mud, or cast in bronze, frozen in time.
 
Thanks for that thoughtful analysis, warscapes can be very monotonal and brutal.
Men and vehicles tend to take on the colors of earth and char, all to return to the earth
one way or the other.
