Hey all. Just wanted to stop by and introduce myself as the most recent newbie of this forum. My name is Deron, am 39 years old and from Pennsylvania. I was made aware of this website from watching videos of SMConsortium on youtube.com . Im very raw and cherry in regards to putting together scale models but am really into this and am going to be putting together the rest of my life. I am going to be looking up to SMConsortium as a mentor as his videos have been A SUPER site. So any valuable information anyone can give me in regards to helping make my model building better Id greatly appreciate any information I can receive. So Hello, looking forward to meeting you all and am looking forward to building my tools and supplies to get busy building.

Well, you've come to the right place. I've only been building for 8 months and this group of guys have been nothing but a pile of inspiration and guidance! One of the few places on the net, besides kids forums, that you're not called stupid, ridiculed for your budding skills, or berated just because.

WELCOME

Thanks guys. Much appreciated. Grendals, Ive heard SMConsortium mention you a few times in his you tube videos. Like Ive said Im very very raw in regards to modeling. I recently became disabled due to back surgeries and have resorted to Modeling as a way to occupy my time. I am starting brand new with EVERYTHING. I am a former employee at Coca Cola Enterprises. I went from making $68K a year to being on a fixed income of $12K a year from the Disability. Im going to start off with building up my tools and accessories, then work on paints, and then let the fun begin. Ive recently purchased a big lot of 1:24 Nascar models off ebay so I have a decent stash of models. I have bought a xacto set, and a big lot of paint brushes. I recently went to my local Michaels Arts and Crafts being I received a 40% off my entire purchase so due to the limited stock I purchased a Aztek Airbrush propellant system they had. I have a group of testors 1/4 oz acrylic paints, and a can of Testors Primer.

I recently began watching youtube.com videos on modeling which is what led me to this forum. Im watching and learning A TON from your videos, using your videos as a rule of thumb to what tools Id like to purchase and what they do. Ive since learned that I want to start with Tamiya acrylic paints and when I get better at airbrushing, Id like to switch to Vallejo paints. It seems Im going to be very partial to Tamiya. I would like to eventually as money allows branch from the propellant system to a compressor and regular airbrush.

Since Im so new to modeling and obviously going to be messing stuff up as I learn and get better, Im going to stick with what I have until I can eventually get ALL the equipment I want in my arsenal, and work with what I have with the models I have. As I get more of the stuff I want, and equipment I need Ill buy additional kits and build my stash. I eventually want to get into the Aircraft as well as figurines. I may look into gundam as that is a area that seems to have gained my interest.

So again thanks for your welcoming to the forum family. I truely appreciate your warmness and hope to continue learning a ton from you all. If anyone has any websites they order items from or know of anywhere that is selling products you feel would be valuable to add to my arsenal at a very reasonable price please refer me to the websites. If anyone has anything they would be interested in selling to upgrade themselves, please also let me know as someones "junk" may be another persons treasure. Thanks again and talk with you all soon.

Hi, Deron, and welcome to the Herd! Whereabouts in PA? I'm in Bethlehem, my Mom's family's from Allentown, Dad's is from upstate in Norhtumberland and Sunbury, and I grew up in Southeast PA. HobbyTown in Whitehall is my LHS, as are AC Moore, Michael's and HobbyLobby up by Nazareth, though the one I visited as a kid is still going strong, Penn Valley Hobbies in Lansdale.

The Baron very good. I am about a half hour or so from Sunbury. Im a hour North of Harrisburg. Selinsgrove is the closest mall to where I live. Very familiar with the Lehigh Valley area. Have friends that attend Bethlehem Catholic as well as Nazareth High. Was really involved with wrestling and know a ton of wrestlers in the Lehigh Valley. My nephew actually goes to college at East Stroudsburg. We have ZERO hobby shops in my area as they have all closed. The closest Michaels Arts and Crafts to me is in Selinsgrove, PA. The closest AC Moore is in Mechanicsburg, PA. Both have very limited Hobby supplies. The closest actual Hobby shop would probably be in like State College, PA. Its sad the amount of hobby shops that have closed the doors in the past few years.

Ah, up and down the Susquehanna! If you ever get into painting figures, you can head up the road to Milton, too, and visit Chuck Robinson's Red Lancers store. He's one of the major sellers in the figure hobby. Even if you don't do figures, it's worth it to see some of the collection he has displayed there, plus supplies and some militaria.

Not surprised that you were involved in wrestling. I wasn't, I played baseball, but my brother wrestled (Souderton Area) and Pop is a big fan of scholastic and collegiate wrestling, travels to both high school and collegiate matches all over the place. For you folks who aren't from PA, wrestling is practically our state sport. Football might draw bigger crowds on a Friday night, but I think there are more dedicated and devoted fans following wrestling than football.

Well, welcome to the Herd, Deron! I look forward to seeing what you're building.

Nice. I was unaware of the Milton store. Definately check that out as we get out that way alot. Souderton huh haha. My nephews had some whicked battles with a kid from Souderton in wrestling. Joe Stolfi. He actually beat him their last meeting. Figures are something Im going to look into. As I said, the only thing Ive ever built was cars, and one ship. Thanks for all the valuable info.
