Hello my name is Daniel, and I'm from Romania, I found your community today and I am very glad to be here. I'm quite new to scale modelism I done a lot of miniature painting, mostly Descent Second Edition board game and Warhammer. I've started my journey in to the hobby right before the pandemic started.

I have tried to build, and I have failed, 3 airplane models till now, the A-10 you see on my desk is my 4th intent, the problem was I tried out model brands blindly and I didn't have the experience or knowledge to choose the right brand, I will love to talk about brands and models in the future with you.

This is my hobby corner, it is mostly focused on miniature painting and the only thing I have to buy a lot of tools and materials for scale modeling, an airbrush with a good air compressor will be the next tool I will buy, and here in continental Europe all the brands are mostly chinese and some made in Germany (which are more expensive, four times the price) and I suppose in a future I will have to buy a Dremel like tool.

I hope we will have a good time together and I hope I can provide some useful feedback in the near future, till then, I think I will lurk a bit and try not to be a problem when I ask noob like questions.

Thank you for letting me be a part o the community and i wish you a beautiful day to all of you.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Great place here for help and advice. Post plenty of photos of your builds and especially if you have a question.

I have a Tamiya A10 in the stash so I will follow your build with interest.

The main thing is to have a bit of fun with it.

My A-10 is made by Italieri, and it is a 1/72 scale, and has a lots o building issues. Thank you for the welcome.

Welcome. I did the Revell A-10 Warthog and it's not a bad kit. I once had the Tamiya but that kit got stolen from me years ago - most likely one of the tech guys from Roto Rooter who saw it in plain view in my cellar where they were working. Along with that kit was a 1/144 scale B-52 Startofortress with Griffiss AFB markings was swiped. Oh I was literally pissed a year after I noticed both were gone and never to be found. I couldn't place a claim against them the after a year.

WarHammer…. my local Hobby Town has War Hammer event every other Saturday gaming and building/painting. I'm not into that sort of thing… #1 is I hate figure painting. LOL! #2 is I don't know nothing about what War Hammer is exactly. I don't understand the object of WarHammer gaming is at all. Although there is a lot of cool figures for them.

Sorry to hear that they stole your model, I've heard that Tamya are one of the best brands, I had tried a Revell model before, but since I don't have a airbrush, I had to paint it with a normal brush. It turned out bad, and a fellow hobbyist friend told me to sunk the plane in isopropyl alcohol for the night. I think he just made fun of me or he did not know that the isopropyl alcohol is suited for miniature made of another type of plastic, or resin. The plastic melted and when I tried to remouve the paint it got worst and the plane ended siting on a shelf as a reminder, but that's how it works, it's called learning...

Warhammer, or better said Games Workshop is quite a big corporation it spread out from England all over the world and it is a nice war-game, but to complicated and you have to invest a lot of money and time into it. They change the rules of the game each year and then modify the stats of the armies and units when they pleased so they can sell more of their plastic an paper(books). And the other part is the painting of the miniature, the have a brand called Citadel, they do well on their plastic but it is not suitable for static models, but I guess you can paint dioramas.

Isopropyl alcohol will not damage polystyrene .
So you melted it with something else . Acetone ?

Yes! I tried a lots of it, because the woman how worked at the online store here in my country told me so... I told her that the primer was expired because the paint acted funny and left a lot of granulated dots on the wings and most of the superior part of the plane. Don't worry I know how to prime minis and I applied the same technique to the model. I usually prime most of the parts before getting the of the sprue.

I learn it well! Tomorrow I will post some picture of the jar of acetone and the airplane...

Good night, I'm going to sleep tomorrow I have to wake up at 6 am.

Nice talking to you.

If it was Acetone and NOT Isopropyl Alcohol... as you posted... we don't need to see any jar, jug, bowl or container.

We already know what Acetone woulda done to a plastic model.

Isopropyl wouldn't have done a thing. Personally, I use 100% IPA to clean every styrene kit just before I paint from all the handling and it doesn't do a thing even to clear parts. I dunk it all.

Like you say though, live and learn.

Rob.

Purple Power does not work and you should never talk to whoever told you that. Block all contact and NEVER interact with them again.

SuperClean works very, VERY well.

SuperClean

Neither of these can be bought in Romania anyway.

Cool your jets! My mistake… I meant SuperClean. Geez… NEVER assume I got info from another person!

Welcome to the Herd, Plastic Pilot! Yeah, if you're new, you might want to be careful about the advice you get, and maybe consider a couple of replies and see if they agree first. But don't worry, we all have learned as we have gone along in building.
Besides your A-10, do post pictures of your figures, too. There is a figure forum here, and I'd love to see your figures, too.
Best regards,
Brad

Welcome!!! Much great advice and help here. Since you are new:
Some kits you build, some kits build you.
It's all fun in learning.
