ICM KI-21 "Sally" 1/48

Nice !

what is the purpose of that long , rear canopy ?
Are there versions where that added glass makes sense ?
What is back there ?

If you zoom in you should see a machine gun nest under the rear half. The canopy slides open to give it a good area of fire.

There are smaller MG's in the nose, under the tail, and just behind the wings in the sides of the fuselage, but I've posed most of them closed up. It could defend itself!

I thought maybe that was a tunnel connecting to the cockpit , but definitely not now .
I'm wondering what the advantage is in having that long chunk of canopy instead of a canopy only atop where the eyeballs are .
seems to me that a shorter canopy would give better visibility -- plus less complexity and weight .
... and what is the purpose of that volume above the fuel tank ?
:D I don't expect you to be an expert on this thing , I'm just curious .

Not sure how good your Japanese is (I'm guessing it's not worse than mine ;) ), you may find answers in the Ki-27 manual — click on the yellow button with a symbol of a book and the text "すぐに読む".

Outstanding paint job. Love the interior details.
What airbrush, tip size and paint did you use? I can do the same with my Sotar airbrush with xtra fine tip and enamel paints but not with Vallejo acrylics.

Thanks very much guys.

I can't take credit for the canopy masking as it was a pre-cut kit from ASK (129 pieces!) . I did cut my own masks for most of the markings though, from Oramask 810.

I use lacquer paints wherever possible, mostly Mr Color, with some MRP and SMS thrown in here & there.

My main airbrushes are Mr Hobby / Creos (made by the same people that make Iwata ones) with a PS-275 0.3mm pistol grip 'brush doing most of the work and a PS-290 0.2mm for the detail and camo.
