Not much to update. For the next three weeks I'm super busy at work - it's the end of our semester. That being said I'm going to try and continue to chip away at BSC 2015 Build #1, and Build #2...neither of which cooperated this week.
With the RAH 66; I'm still working on seams. I did spray it down with some primer on selected spots as a check at the beginning of the week, and in the end found that I need at least a round 4 of filling and sanding before the fuselage can receive some serious paint. I did paint the tail boom exhaust area - sorry no pictures of that. The last few fuselage panels (closing off the engine exhaust) were put into place and their gaps filled with PS shims, super glue and Mr. Surfacer.
Somewhere along the way I decided the kit 20mm cannon sucked, and that to compete with the MONSTER Hind, I needed to add a little more oomph to the build. I decided to replace the kit 20mm with a Master brass aftermarket cannon, it felt like a good idea at the time. The parts arrived Thursday, so yesterday morning I set to assembling the brass and etch. When I ordered the AM, I really had no idea just how tiny these parts are.
The RAH 66 would have used a improved version of the cannon used on late model AH-1's, so I just used an 1:72 M197 cannon from an AH-1.
Putting the Master cannon together turned out to be a exercise in patience, and combating frustration. But after approximately 90 minutes (no joke, it took me 90 minutes to put together 6 parts) of eye straining effort I had it put together and assembled to the styrene piece that I'll glue into the turret housing later. The graduations on the ruler below are 1/64ths of an inch...
Go tiny or go home I guess... ;D
Most of the week, during my modelling bench time I've been fighting with Build #2. I thought building a pilotless ME 262 would be easy (no cockpit, closed landing gear bays) - I was wrong. The doors for the main landing gear bays would not fit (being both too large and too small), so I made scratch ones. After fitting and gluing the doors in place I offered the wing to the fuselage, - didn't fit either.
After that I made tabs and spacers from spare sheet PS. Sanding, filing, shimming ensued. Finally, this morning, I think I've got it to a workable stage. I'm going to have to go get some new clamps to glue it together however, the ones I have won't reach (and don't provide enough force anyways).
Outside of the BSC stuff, I'm just putting finishing touches onto my X-32 and Dora.
Thanks for stopping by and taking a look.
