Luckily, these days there are a variety of WWII subject matter available in warships. I can't prescribe certain kits that would be beginner models, but I can say that beginning off you may want to look at starting with 1/700 scale and vessels that are a bit straight forward. A good place to start is Carriers, PT boats, Submarines, Assualt/Landing craft, or some Auxiliary/Merchant ships. Even in 1/350 scale they will be a little less daunting or overwhelming the first time building warships. Your Battleship and Cruiser classes will be much more challenging based on their superstructure, armament, and mast/aerials. Those would be better suited once you get your feet wet or your sea legs under you. HTH
