Got all fired up watching the group build, so picked up my first ship! Not serious enough to float with those others, but should be fun.




Parts are on sprues, so thank goodness for precision cutters to clean up the cuts after rough cutting!
Press fit, gluing some seams because I'm thinking of painting, though it looks pretty clean with the colored parts...

Rough cut:



Fine cut with single blade. Perfect if the sprue attachment point is backed off one side and flush on the other. The blade glides against the part on the side that had a bit of reveal, and slices down with the piece held by the flat jaw of the cutter



Most of the time, no filing, clean up with an knife or sanding required:



Unfortunately, because the cutter is 'right-handed', i can't use it in every situation.

For those other situations where right handed access isn't possible, or the cut is against a rounded edge, or the attachment point is in the middle of a part, doubled bladed cutters work well.
Not quite as clean, but requiring minimal clean up.

I hadn't either, but apparently been around some time.

If you search 'toon' or 'egg' in the main forum search, you can see other 'caricature' kits folks have built or have in their stash!

Happy little kit, but great example of a pet peeve.
Why do manufacturers insist on sprue attachment points that cross over surfaces that should be flat? A pain to cut, a pain to clean up.
I know, I know, necessary part of the molding process, but really?

I agree. They could put them on the sides and not on mating surfaces. I hate cleaning those up.

... liking these rigid carbon fibre sanding sticks.

The stiffness of the base makes it a breeze to sand edges without worrying about 'rounding' and keeping a square edge!

So easy to get ahead of yourself!
Will stop here, prime and paint before assembling the rest... hopefully I haven't backed myself into too many corners for painting!
