This is an old build I started a good year and some ago. Not sure why I put it away but I think paint is mostly all it needs.

Some of these old Amt kits didn't have much for interior detail. The door handle and window crank was just too shallow. Easy fix though.

As this car is going to be a car that is an "in progress" sort of affair, I will leave the hood off. Hence the scratched hood hinges.

This motor was done a while ago but I think it will suffice. Should make it a little more dirty I guess.

The chassis was already rusted. Tires were sanded bald too.

Thanks for looking.

Sweet ,I like the Mercs ,got one on hold myself ::) Its looking good buddy ,the engine is real nice .If you want a good rust effect on the headers try painting them with Raw umber oil paint ,or any dark brown oil ,and while the oils are wet dab on some rust pigments or ground down pastels (orange) ,it gives a great effect ,thats how my Marder exhaust is done ;)

Chris.

Look what the cat dragged in!! Nice one Noname!! Love that motor!! Way to resurrect and old build!! ;)

Thanks guys.

Chris, I would naturally put some pastel on the exhaust manifolds. I generally don't use oils. But I get a nice effect just stippling acrylic on and then adding a little pastel. That is how all my rust up to this point has been done. Hopefully soon I'll finally get some pigments. But I agree, as the exhaust manifold is a little smooth and needs some variety, texture and a more flat sheen to it. Actually, the chassis needs a little more work as it has a slight sheen. I use artists acrylics because they are flat and thick. But under a certain light they do have a tad satin sheen to them. I just brought it out of the box last night and took some pics.

I think this picture better displays the effects that can be acheived by the simple use of acrlic and pastels.

Oh yeah ...I cant deny you get a cracking result buddy ,and that is a brilliant build . It was just a tip if you wanted it ...thats all , not knocking you in any way ;)

Chris.

Hey Matt,
look nice, this is just the beginning, has been all the talent.

Regards

Richard

Thanks Richard. Glad you stopped by buddy.

No problem Chris. The manifolds were not quite right. I know the virtues of oil paint, it's just that I do most of my modeling in my living room so I use acrylics as much as possible.

I think they look a little better now.

Sad part is I should have filled in that hole. Don't know how I overlooked that one. ::)

The manifold look excellent now!!! You could always try filling it with a little more pigs..maybe a darker tone just for conversation!! ::) A dab of white glue might do the trick then hit it with some pigs ;D

;)

That's a good idea TRM.

I glued the engine in and added some pipes. They have a little damage as if old, maybe broke off exhaust or something.

I also sprayed the chassis with dullcoat but it still had the sheen. Then I added some more pigment, and it still has a sheen in some places. Maybe my overhead light is just too strong. I need to take better pics anyway.

Corr ..thats looking well crusty ;D Headers look sweet ,you probably wont see that sink mark once the engine is in the car ;)

Chris.

Thanks guys, it looks better in person. That pic. doesn't show the colours so well. Someday maybe I'll have a dedicated photo booth. :-\

Been working on this when I can. I first sprayed the body with HS followed by a light grey acrylic. It was a mess. Realised my air brush hose had moisture. So I went ahead and painted it with Duplicolour rattle can I had using the salt technique and liquid mask to create the rust and peeled paint. This was done along the bottom edges of the car. More of a northern car rather than a Florida car. ;)

There is alot of work here to do but should be fun. First I will sand the sheen off of the dark green lauquor paint. One door and fender will be painted a different colour and maybe the other door and drunk will be primer. Here is where I start the weathering.

Getting in deep now!! ;D Looking sweet! Taint nothing wrong with being from the North...all the best rust this side of the Mason Dixon!! ;) Keep it rolling!! ;D

Looking good there Noname ..cant wait to see the weathering :)

Chris.

Thanks for the moral support guys. :D

I got the fender done! What an accomplishment eh? ;D Just been busy lately. This Christmas thing seems to be making a hit! :p I predict this internet thing is also going to be big. ;D ::)

Seriously, if I may, all I had time to do is the fender. One day (maybe tomorrow) when the temp is above zero again, I'll paint the doors and that one fender. Got to rust up the rest of the car now too. I didn't really want this much rust on the fender but I got a little carried away. This car is suppose to be a fixer upper, not exactly a junkyard dog. I guess this one fender just didn't get replaced yet. ;) Jeeze I hope the guy got a deal on this old Ford. 8)

By the way, I ground the inside of the wheel opening to make then appear more thin and realistic. This in a sense could be taken as a mistake. If you look at any 1:1 car, I think you'll notice they all have an inner lip. Making the inner edge of the wheel opening thinlike this would probably only make sense on a car that may of had the wheel opening radiused.Just thought I'd share that.

Here is the passenger side door and fender painted. I like the subtle difference between the dark green and dark blue. The variation in the sheen worked out good. Sorry for the crappy pic.. When this is all said and done I will take some better pics.
